DF sent me a demo of his "stuff" recently.
I listen to anywhere from a dozen to twenty new cds a month. Its rare if I like one outta that whole pound of crappy, desperate plastic from our paternalistic "entertainment" industry. They're a bad show mostly. A chorus of adenoidal whines from children who dress like whores and convicts.
If anything ever reaches my desk that's of value, I cherish it.
When Desert Fox PM'd me about his music I was lethargic at the thought of ramming another round disc into my 'blaster. Let me just say, I'm more 'idiot' and DF is more 'savant' when it comes to arranging a good piece of ear candy. The man's got my credibility.
The songs haunt. They follow you around. They'll chase you even when you're not listening anymore. DF is a master of pop. He does it all in that he arranges and mixes everything, the lead, the back-up, the guitar, bass line etc. Its all him, even that doo-wop dude in the back corner of your speaker. Its just woven in layer by layer. Its like listening to Norman Bates please himself while he talks to "mother". Just kidding. My point is, everything you hear on the CD is DF. He's a one man band that sounds like a 3 piece outfit.
Ask him for a copy. He's made me a believer.
What I really enjoy though are the 'white man's scat', you know, that 1950's(you don't hear it much anymore) back up chant. It has a 'lullaby' effect. Like a nurse with big breasts cradling your head in her arms as she lowers an oxygen mask over your head. Its like drugs without the side-effects. Its pure pop. Its sugar. Its really cool.
