Reality TV-- What do you think?

Is there anyone out there who feels as I do, and won't watch reality TV? This of course is my opinion, but I feel it's all dumb, and won't watch it. I have no interest. (And there's so much of it on now! They are just starting a new one now called Last One Standing.)

Yet I do enjoy most of the "real" court shows like Judge Judy and the People's Court, just to name two of them. Judge Judy is my favorite, but there are many that I like.
I also enjoy the "real" reality shows such as the various and sundry shows about huge families (such as the Duggars). Then there are the shows that follow the lives of dwarf families, such as the Roloffs, which is the family that lives on a farm in Oregon.
There's also Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, Dirty Jobs, etc.
These all are the types of reality shows I like, if that's what you call them.

Has anyone ever defined what is "real" about reality TV? All it proves is that the taste of American TV viewers cannot be underestimated.

Wife keeps telling me that I should try out for "Survivor". Don't know how long I'd survive since I just can't abide dumbassness for too long.

Our whole society has become way too strange for me. The whole world has gone mad, IMO.

I rarely watch TV any more. Much less "reality" TV. :unsmile:

I enjoy some of the "performance" reality shows, such as "So You Think You Can Dance" or "On the Lot". But I have to train myself not to believe the hype or imagine any of the setup is really as described, or that the judging is completely fair.

I just watch to enjoy the performances themselves.

I prefer the 'reality' of shows such as Farscape, Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, Painkiller Jane, Dr. Who and the like...

Dirty Jobs is one of my favorites. The rest pretty much suck.
