Bill Kristol: Is Rudy really more electable than Fred?
Or, more precisely, is he less unelectable (http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/CampaignStandard/2007/10/kristol_is_rudy_the_most_elect.asp)? It’s a simple math problem: Would the net gain in independent votes exceed the net loss in evangelical votes in swing states if Rudy was the nominee?

The big-money donors, the RINOs and the politicos like Giuliani. Independents like his law-and-order approach to governing NYC and his response to 9/11.
But the conservative base wouldn't touch him with a 10-foot battle lance.
Without the base, he can't win. Period.
OTOH, Fred Thompson has the conservative grassroots fired up.

It's 2000 all over again:
The big-money donors, the RINOs and the politicos like McCain. Independents like his war record.
But the conservative base wouldn't touch him with a 10-foot battle lance.
Without the base, he can't win. Period.
OTOH, George W. Bush has the conservative grassroots fired up.
