Original Harry Reid/Rush Limbaugh Smear Letter (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260170172469)

The letter was posted on eBay today. The bidding is up to $10,600 at this moment. The winning bid will go to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation. So traitor Reid is helping the military despite his loathing.

Up yours, Harry!

Problem being, Dingy Harry doesn't have an "A Game."

Last I heard, Rush will match the winning bid, donate it to the charity, and has challenged each of the signers to do the same.

Let's see if any one of them has an "A Game."

A possibility: Georgie "Nazi Collaborator" Soros used the eBay system and put in a top bid of $20 million so that no matter what anyone else bids, his will prevail. When he wins, he'll hold a press conference with Reid, and he'll burn the letter for the cameras.

Per this page (http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=260170172469), the bidder called y***t started the high-stakes bidding.

y***t(92) - US $250,000.00 - Oct-18-07 13:01:48 PDT

It had been going up about $1K at a time. S/he abruptly bid $108,000 higher than the previous bid, and then went by $25K, then $50K, then $100K jumps for six more bids. It's now between y***t(92) and d***r(126), unless another bidder jumps in as the deadline approaches.

At the moment: y***t(92) - US $851,100.00 - Oct-18-07 13:52:23 PDT

The bidding ends Oct-19-07 10:00:00 PDT, or 1:00 PM EDT, meaning Rush will have the final number after the 1:00 PM obscene profits break.

Even if it doesn't change, Rush's dollar-for-dollar match will result in the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation receiving $1,702,200. And the military-loathing traitor Dingy Harry Reid and his 40 fellow traitors will have been the impetus for it.

Justice is sweet!

ThomasMore

I don't think they are bidding themselves up.

I have participated in a number of eBay auctions, and that is how the bids display.

You may enter a MAXIMUM bid, which is as high as you want to go. This is not your NEXT bid increment, but your bid limit.

Your bid will go up to the next bid increment. If nobody else has already entered a higher bid limit, then your bid increment (not your limit) will show as the new high bid.

Here is a hypothetical auction for a used toaster:

Seller has set the minimum bid at $5.00, and eBay has set the bidding increment at $0.25.

Bidder A sees the toaster and is willing to pay up to $7.00, so he enters $7.00 as his maximum bid.

Bidder A now has the high bid of $5.00, since nobody has yet bid against him. If nobody else bids, A will only pay $5.00, even though he was willing to go higher if he needed to.

Bidder B comes in, and wants to buy the toaster. He sets his bid limit at $6.50.

Bidder B is immediately outbid by Bidder A's earlier bid limit of $7.00.

The new bid belongs to Bidder A, at $6.75, the next increment above B's limit.

The bid history so far would show:

Bidder A = $5.00
Bidder A = $6.75

(Notice that, even though B put in a bid, it doesn't show on the bidding history because it was instantly outbid)

Bidder C comes in, and puts in a bid limit of $8.00.
This beats Bidder A's bid limit of $7.00.

The high bid is now Bidder C's, at $7.25.

The bid history now reads:

Bidder A = $5.00
Bidder A = $6.75
Bidder C = $7.25

If the auction closes now, Bidder C never has to pay the full $8.00, only the amount by which he beat A's highest bid.

This works well for internet auctions, where you can't sit by the computer 24/7. You put in the amount you are willing to pay, then you can walk away from the computer. You might do better than your bid limit, or someone might be willing to pay more than you.

Oh my stars! I wonder what Rush thinks NOW?!! This is absolutely incredible ... history making! I was listening to Rush on Hannity & Colmes and at the time the top bid was around 800,000 (rounded).

There's still a whole day left, and these two bidders keep out bidding each other AND themselves. I notice on the site it says that you must be a pre-approved bidder to bid, so I'm assuming some yahoo can't just be putting in random bids.

I'm astounded, simply astounded.

This is so amazing it's just bizarre.

A big thanks to ThomasMore for explaining the weird looking bids. Here's his link explaining it: http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/showpost.php?p=594760&postcount=35, although on the ebay bidding page for this item it says, "Only actual bids (not automatic bids generated up to a bidder's maximum) are shown. Automatic bids may be placed days or hours before a listing ends. Learn more about bidding (http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/bidding-ov.html)." just above the list of bids, so I'm still not clear if what Thomas described so well is what is actually happening here.

Maybe we can delete the other thread and use this one until the bidding closes tomorrow at 1pm EDT, or merge them under this thread title so that the subject line of the thread is more up-to-date.

Rush has said he would match the winning bid, so it looks like he's on the hook for a BIG pay-out. I hope he can afford it!

I am just DYING to know who these bidders are. ebay says they're pre-approved, pre-qualified. I hope they authorize Rush to announce their names.

Maybe, but if he did that, even more bad information about him will be publicized and his image of Hate America and the troops will be enhanced, and that's not helpful to his NGOs smear machines such as Moveon and MediaMatters.

I wonder if one or more of the bidders are Big Wheelers from Vegas who want to make sure Reid knows his name is now MUD in Nevada. Reid wins elections on the strength of Vegas being a 'rat town, but it's not a lefty 'rat town. The rest of NV is 'pub, so Reid is not on solid ground there.

They've been known to bid outlandish sums on eBay offerings.

In the year of the Lord 2004, a sandwich some say is blessed with the image of the Virgin Mary appeared in front of the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas, carrying with it a message of peace and cheesy goodness.

There was much rejoicing.

"Look how happy everybody is to see it," said Diana Duyser as she watched tourists lean over the display case and snap pictures. "That's what I wanted. I wanted people to be able to see it."

Duyser is the Hollywood, Fla., woman who claims she cooked the grilled cheese sandwich about 10 years ago then decided to save it when she noticed the image of a woman's up-turned face scorched into the bread.

"I took that one bite, and she was staring back at me," Duyser said.

A few weeks ago, Duyser put her inexplicably mold-free, miracle-wich on eBay, where it sold for $28,000 to online casino GoldenPalace.com.CHEESE COMES TO LAS VEGAS (http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_home/2004/Dec-09-Thu-2004/news/25369358.html)

While everybody is looking at this as a big win for Rush, and it is, they are overlooking one vital fact: This is an enormous victory for free speech and a black eye to those who want to breathe fresh life into the Fariness Doctrine.

The bidding just closed. The $2,1000,1000.00 is indeed final.

I agree with Rush that Reid is trying to insert himself into this victory for Rush. The creep has no shame whatever.

Rush just played Reid's blather. Reid is trying to horn in on the credit for the letterand make it sound like he and Rush are friends. Reid said something like, "When WE wrote the letter we didn't know it would be worth the current bid of $2,100,100............." so that he doesn't look so bad. Reid is trying to characterize what the letter is about according to his rewrite of (recent) history instead of what it is really about. Just as Rush says, the letter is about abuse of power and abuse of a private citizen by presumably the most august deliberative body in the world.

Rush will be back with the winner in a few minutes. He seemed to be saying he would be announcing the winner's name.

And the winner is Betty Casey.............more on her in a minute, Rush says.

Reid is CLAIMING CREDIT! He said that if he and Rush can come together on this...blah, blah, blah...

Remarkable brass. The man sent a letter censuring Rush and trying to get him fired, then blathers on about having "come together with Rush." No apology, no willingness to donate, no nothing.

This is dishonesty at its deepest and darkest.

The winner is philanthropist Betty Casey! Good on her.

I couldn't find much on her during a quick Google search, only a couple of DBM hit-pieces. Here is what I found.

Betty Casey is a noted private philanthropist. It appears she and her late husband were real estate magnates in the DC area, according to a couple of blurbs found on a quick Google search.

Mrs. Casey has been listening to Rush since Rush's show began and is a huge fan.

Rush says he is deeply grateful to her and very happy to match the winning bid.

Well done, Rushbo. You're a class act all the way.

You've left dingy Harry sputtering more lies on the senate floor.

Over $2.1 ($2,100,100.) million bid by Betty Casey, which Rush is matching. Reid is trying to get credit, but where is his money? Rush challenged them each to match the winning bid, but none of them will.

Many of the bidders who couldn't afford the amounts the bidding went up to are making contributions to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation anyway.

Was it a challenge to each ?
I thought it was a challenge for the entire group to pool their money to match the bid ...

This is a worthy cause for Albores phony Peace Prize monies ...

Youy'd think the whole bunch , pooled together ,could match that bid , though :D

From what Rush said today, it was a challenge to each of the signers to match the winning bid. Today he said he was urging those signers who could afford it to match the winning bid.

Well, he can have the honor of taking credit for the authorship of a letter sold as "Original Harry Reid/Rush Limbaugh Smear Letter". That exactly what it was: a letter trying to smear Rush for what he didn't say. And it was a shameless abuse of naked governmental power targeting a private citizen. If the traitor wants the credit for that, let him get it.
