View Full Version : Father Sues Church: Funeral protest made him SICK
BabyBeastie
10-26-2007, 07:26 AM
The church's protests have inspired several state laws and a federal law about funeral protests, but the Maryland suit is believed to be the first filed by the family of a fallen serviceman.
Asked Wednesday about a sign that read "Thank God for dead soldiers," Snyder said he thinks about it daily.

These people are evil nut jobs and will be toasting their buns for eternity. If there was ever a case of hate speech this would be it. I stand firmly for the first amendment but these idiots are doing their best to derail that protection for us all. I can imagine what would have happened to these yahoos if they would have protested soldier’s funerals during the revolutionary or civil wars, can you say firing squads? The article refers to them as fundamentalists; there is nothing in the Bible that calls for hate and cruelty. They are a total disgrace to the Christian faith.

It is incredible that it takes a court of law to demonstrate to retards like the Woodsboro clowns that funerals are not an invitation for protest. I hope they get their peepees whacked and whacked OFF!:flame:

A not so widely known fact about the Phelpses is...........they are almost all lawyers. Yep, LAWYERS!
These plaintiffs are going to have a difficult time winning this case - not because the Phelpses are lawyers but because the Phelpses have assiduously stayed within existing law in their activities. This case may be charting new First Amendment waters.
It WOULD indeed be nice to publicly make an association/connection between the anti-military San Francisco and the Phelpses. It would be SWEET. Another similarity besides the anti-military positions is the act of intruding into sacrosanct places and events - the horrid fake nuns intruding their blasphemy and mockery into a Catholic mass and the Phelpses intruding their blasphemous message into funerals attending by grieving families.
I have often wonderd if the Phelpses are far-left radicals of the vicious, anarchical persuasion rather than religious loonies.

"Phelps needs a good ass-kicking. That goes without saying. But you better do in a stairwell without witnesses. Why? Because that's what he's hoping for! He's running a scam!
"According to someone at the Snopes community board, it's a business. They travel the country, set up websites telling you exactly when they'll be there, and using the most inflammatory statements all over the place, just to get someone to violate their rights for profit. Then they sue the military, the police force that was to protect them, and everyone that is around them for money. Phelps does not break the law. What he does is try to make YOU break the law.
"That Jerry Springer sideshow is a legal whore gussied up as a fire-and-brimstone minister. According to an entry in Wikipedia, Phelps was disbarred from practicing in federal courts almost 20 years ago for a range of ethical violations. Interestingly, the article also says, "His final disbarment resulted from a plea deal through which the Federal Court would stop disbarment hearings against the rest of his family." So, he's not the only attorney in the house."

I'm not sure, but I think most people are beginning to catch on that they do NOT represent any kind of mainstream Christianity or the Right--especially since they started protesting soldiers.
Some Patriot Riders came through town a while ago and I stopped to thank them for their work.

We had a contingent of Phelps Phreaks here several months back for the funeral of a soldier who died in Iraq. The Patriot Riders wre here. It was nice to have them, and they were welcome, of course . . . but they weren't really needed. A bunch of Cowboys got together and took care of the problem. The numerous law enforcement agencies who were present to keep the peace were all suddenly called away on a doughnut break.
A couple of weeks back, we had two funerals within days of one another for soldiers who were killed in Iraq.
For whatever reason, the Phelps Phreaks didn't show up here.

BALTIMORE - A grieving father won a nearly $11 million verdict Wednesday against a fundamentalist Kansas church that pickets military funerals out of a belief that the war in Iraq is a punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.
Albert Snyder of York, Pa., sued the Westboro Baptist Church for unspecified damages after members demonstrated at the March 2006 funeral of his son, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, who was killed in Iraq.
The jury first awarded $2.9 million in compensatory damages. It returned in the afternoon with its decision to award $6 million in punitive damages for invasion of privacy and $2 million for causing emotional distress.

Since the judgment is against the church, the plaintiffs should be able to seize and/or lien every bit of property owned by the "church". The defendant will of course appeal the verdict, but they'll have to spend more money to do it. Just as we try to do with other terrorist organizations, draining the money is one of THE best ways to shut them down.

Amen to that, and l fervently hope that every other family the phreaks attempt this against do the same thing. In fact, depending on the statute of limitations state to state, there are other families who should be able to sue for the phreaks' more recent past incursions into the funerals of their loved ones. I was thinking the same exact thing, Venus, when I heard this news today.
The door has been opened now, and any military family who has been harmed by these cretins should bring suit.
That Phelps woman [I think her name is Shirley] is supposedly an attorney. I wonder if she defended this suit, and her poor lawering is what lost the case for the "church"?
If a half dozen families in a half dozen staes would file suit, it would break the "church" in attorney fees alone, not to mention the judgments that could possibly be handed down.
These low-lifes need to be kicked and kicked good while they're on the ropes. Don't let them get up. Keep kicking.

Much welcome.... I too think that Julie may not have been able to control herself either.
I remember that exchange. I think Banderas handled herself fine. I see nothing wrong with her reacting viscerally to the vile natures and grossly perverse actions of these people. If she hadn't, Shirley Phelps would have simply spewed her hatred unchecked as though what she had to say was normal, fine and dandy, no need to challenge it.
Banderas isn't always the brightest bulb in the pack, but I perceive her interviews as honest, to the point, and she seems to me to be generally a good, patriotic American who supports our troops.
