Shatner's Kirk Not Aboard for New 'Star Trek'
Oct. 26, 2007, 1:27 PM EST
The Associated Press
LOS ANGELES -- The original Capt. Kirk is disheartened he won't get to boldly go anywhere with his old pal Spock in the new "Star Trek" movie.
While Leonard Nimoy is reprising his role as the pointy-eared Vulcan in next year's science-fiction flick, William Shatner (http://movies.msn.com/celebs/celeb.aspx?c=27684) is not on board as Kirk.

God knows I love Trek but if Leonard Nimoy will be the only returning original cast member in the next movie then I'm betting it will suck!! Still, I'll go watch it.

This new trek is nothing but a remake. It's a shame they went this direction instead of coming up with something new.

I'll still watch it, since they casted Simon Pegg as Scotty.
I really think they should cast Gary Sinise as Bones.

You and I think quite alike on this, brudder. I can't help it, I watch all things Star Trek. Even if they aren't up to par with the original. I think it's like trying to recapture my youth, all those wonderful memories shared watching the series with my Dad, talking about Star Trek stuff with him and just having fun. I'm trying to catch just a piece of that feeling.
I can't understand having Spock but not having Kirk, but as brudder said, I will absolutely go see it. I'm not so sure about the dude picked for Scotty, but I'm not all that familiar with him.
I had heard rumors Matt Damon was going to play Kirk, and Adrien Brody was going to play Spock. Glad they went with younger, somewhat unknown people. Althought the dude picked for Kirk, doesn't look a whole lot like him. The guy playing Spock (the bad guy from the TV show Heroes) he should make a good Spock.
Here's the cast so far: (In order of the pictures)
Zachary Quinto = Spock / Chris Pine = Kirk / Karl Urban = McKoy / Simon Pegg = McKoy / John Cho = Sulu / Anton Yelchin = Pavel Checkov / Zoe Saldana - Uhura

As much as we love to remember the original crew, the fact is that they are too old to reprise their parts. I am looking forward to the new movie.

Okay, I'm going to go see it since Pegg is in it. He's funny. I think he came out with a movie recently called "Run, Fat Boy, Run!" I loved him in "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz".

Personally... Picard was the best captain. I watch the "old" Star Trek's for lighthearted entertainment, I watch TNG for the drama and story.
But yes, I agree with TR, Simon Pegg is a great British actor. He does some great stuff. Very British in his humor (obviously) so if you don't understand Brit humor, you will come away very unhappy that you just dropped $20 to see it in theaters.

I don't keep track of Treck. I've only seen the one where Gandalf (the actor) is captain and that chick is the captain. Maybe I've seen him. Picture please?

When I saw "Hot Fuzz" in the theater I swore I was going to pee my pants I was laughing so hard. Pegg can be serious, though. I've seen him play a zombie in "Land/Dawn of the Dead".
This will be quite different. I hope he doesn't shove his opinion at us and expect us to take him seriously like the rest of HollyWeird.

http://www.freeconservatives.com/vb/images/icons/icon8.gif That would be "Trek" not "Treck".

Huh? The actor that played Gandalf never payed a Star Trek captain that I'm aware of.
... and that chick is the captain.
chick = Kate Mulgrew = Captain Katherine Janeway

Seen who? Captain Jean-Luc Picard from Star Trek: Next Generation? Here he is:

He better not be using "Brit humor" in Star Trek, considering he's playing the part of a Scottsman, :smirky:.

I'm looking forward to the new movie. I was under the impression that it was sort of a prequel to the original series, perhaps taking place during Kirk's Starfleet Academy days, but I could be mistaken.
As for other Trek series, I never did like TNG. Something about Picard rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it was his Fwenchness or maybe just that he just didn't seem like much of a leader (he was always asking for 'opinions' from the bridge crew rather than just giving orders). Also never got the Counselor Troi thing or that the crew brought their families with them on the ship.. The whole series was too touchy-feelie for me.
I liked DS9 but didn't get to watch much of it (work schedule). I may end up watching all the old episodes on dvd.
Voyager interested me at first, but it got way too weird way too quickly. The Captain going on a 'spirit journey' with her first officer to discover her spirit animal? Ooookay. They might just as well have added a Borg character to the cast. Oh wait..
Anyways, while it will probably tweak serious Trekkers to hear this, I Loved Star Trek: Enterprise. I was never able to watch many episodes when it was new (again, work schedule and the fact that it changed networks made it impossible), but I've been watching it on dvd now and I just can't get enough. Scott Bakula may not be nearly the Captain that Kirk was, and the crew may be nearly clueless most of the time, but (maybe even because of that) it's much more believable to me than ST:TNG. Also, T'Pol = one hot Vulcan.
I sure hope this upcoming movie makes money and that they keep the 'universe' alive. I'd love to see them start yet another series. Maybe one with Klingons as the protagonists for a change! :thumb:
