If the Rasmussen folks are right, (and I personally believe they have the MOST comprehensive polling techniques at work today) then the GOP as it stands now - has a tremendous opportunity to get the White House in 2008 (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_2008__1/2008_presidential_election/poll_matching_hillary_clinton_and_ron_paul_tells_a _lot_about_clinton_little_about_paul).
With Hillary putting distance between herself and Obama nationally (although if Obama wins Iowa all bets are off) it seems increasingly clear that she will be the nominee.
With the new Rasmussen data today (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_2008__1/2008_presidential_election/poll_matching_hillary_clinton_and_ron_paul_tells_a _lot_about_clinton_little_about_paul) and even Ron Paul as the match-up Hillary can do no better than 48%.

This is one of the nuances that has been brought up over the last few elections; the ability to rise above the 50% mark in polling. The fact that Hitlery can't rise above 50% againt a lunatic like Ron Paul speaks volumes. While I disagree about his view on FDT I do agree with his overall picture!

This was part of what I was alluding to in Rush's comments today (but failed to mention, alas)... And Rush observed that her position being stuck there does not imply that she is the outsider that she wishes to sell herself as, but instead implies that she is in fact the status quo - Not a good position for Hilary to be seated in... The status quo in turbulent times is ripe for the axe...

Obama and Edwards have actually been polling better in head to head matchups and in some instances above the 50% mark.

Everything is very sporatic at this point... As more candidates drop out of the race, we'll start to see different numbers...
It still baffles me how anyone takes John Edwards seriously...

Yeah, given the extreme fluidity of the primaries this can and will change drastically with each candidate that drops out.

I just wish the Fox News talkin heads would refrain from referring to the she-beast as the presumed Democrat candidate when they have no right to presume anything, and everytime they say it, it adds to her perceived legitimacy...

Perception is more than half the battle. Witness the 2000 election when Bush was declared the winner on election night (and rightly so) how the perception that the election was his to lose (and rightly so) and Gore was trying to take it away. The "Rats led by Boss Daley were furious at Fox News for leading the charge on CORRECTLY declaring him the winner.

Mark my words... If the Pub ends up leading on election night, the MSM will be very slow to declare him the winner, even going as far as to suggest recounts are appropriate... If the Dem is running even, they will be quick to declare that candidate the winner...
Even if the Pub were to be the clear winner in a landslide, they will focus their reporting on the inevitable calls of voter intimidation and "disinfranchisement" rather than declare the finality of another Pub president...
The Left isn't even trying to be subtle anymore... This nation is beginning to look like a banana republic... And the 4th estate is an active player in the farce...

In 2004, W won Ohio by over 118,000 votes and nearly 2% points, and the 'Rats to this day say that there was disenfranchisement.

 I have literally seen situations where the democrat was declared the winner while trailing with 50% of the votes counted, while a race is "too close to call" with a Republican with a double digit lead & 50% counted.

That exact scenario happened in Florida in 2000. I remember watching the ticker on the Fox channel during that election night and being totally demoralized when they called Fla for Gore while W was up by a huge margin. W never trailed according to their ticker the entire night or for the entire election but they sure were in a hurry to call it for Gore. I know what you mean LP, that was not the first time!

 No, I first noticed it in 1996.

Ron Paul's numbers are false, just like Dean's were.
Paul's numbers are made up by Ron Paul.
No question in my mind.

Somebody like Perot will step up and run to peel off 'pub votes, especially if Rudy wins the nomination. Like lemmings, 'pubs will line up to vote third-party, ensuring Hillary wins because they learned nothing from '92 or '06.

I remember that well, but it will be nothing compared to what they're going to pull next year. The media will stop at nothing to get a 'rat back in the WH. NBC will probably call the race for Hillary before the first polls even open back east.
