Republicans may trail in the polls on virtually every issue, but conservative influence is surging in both chambers of Congress as the GOP tries to find its soul again.

It’s a risky strategy to tack to the right while Democrats have momentum in most polls, but Republicans clearly believe that they need to recapture their base before they recapture the majority.

-- snip --

At its core, this is an effort to re-energize a party demoralized after last year’s elections.

“We need to do a better job of communicating our core beliefs,” said Danny Diaz, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee. “We had strayed from the core beliefs that got us the majority.”

You can "re-energize" all you want; Actions speak louder than words!!

Great read; lets hope the GOP politico's are listening...

One thing that has savaged reason and logic in politics is the excessive effect of and dependence on polls. Polls rule pols. They base their opinions on the droolings from the latest microcosm of clue-challenged assholes.

When did America start formulating policy based on what a few thousand people who have enough free time to waste answering loaded questions "think" aboiut anything?

Why the hell do we have a government? Just take 25,000 polls/second and use the results to run the country. We could save trillions of dollars. America would of course die in a matter of days, but that's a small price to pay for pure democracy, n'est-ce pas?

Re-energize? Wasn't that the ole Democratic catch phrase of the 2004 Presidential campaign? What the hell is wrong with the GOP? What is so hard about just getting back to your core beliefs? Quite freaking talking about it and just do it. Jeebus it is not that hard, they are like a crack head talking about quitting but just never get around to it.

Absolutely, Doc! :thumb:

There are two schools of thought: vote the best representative of the party, its platform, and it's party members, or vote for who is considered the "best chance" to beat Hillary. In my opinion, right now is the time to vote for the best representative, only when the ticket is established should we be worrying about beating Hillary. If the candidate is one who is the best representative of a Conservative Republican, we CAN beat Hillary -- we can do as has been done to those of us unwilling right now to compromise our values and principles, scare them to death with the possibility of a Hillary Presidency. If they are that scared NOW about beating Hillary, they will be that scared then, and will vote for the candidate in opposition, even if it is not Rudy.
But there is also another possibility. Hillary may not get the democrat nomination. If such is the case the probability of an "R" president goes up, and if we have settled for a liberal-lite, we'll be no better off, and in fact, we'll probably be worse off for the next congressional election due to another case (like the last one) of blow back from the disenfranchised Conservative base.

Exactly. The founding fathers never contimplated a handfull of numbnuts setting policy. We can't survive in a stupid agreement seeking referendum from idiots. Who wants to hand the direction of this country over to a few poll takers?
