Old South Democrat

For a long time I was an "Old South Democrat".
Many people may not be familiar with this term
so, in a minute, I will describe what an "Old South
Democrat"is. My father, grandfather and great grand-
father were Old South Democrats and as far as I know
so were all my Uncles, Aunts, cousins, etc.

Since at least 2003 I have herd various Democrat talking
heads discuss how the Republican Party "stole" religion
from them. This meaning why the Christian voters now
vote Republican instead of Democrat. Well, let me
explain what it means to be an "Old South Democrat".

1) We believe in God, Family, Country.
2) We believe that marriage is between a man and
a woman.
3) We believe in a strong National Defense.
4) We believe that if our young men and women are
currently fighting a war in a foreign land, that you
DO NOT criticize their efforts or do anything to
provide aid and comfort to the enemy.
5) We believe that anyone who provides aid or comfort
to the enemy is guilty of Treason and should be
arrested and tried for this High Crime as stated in
the U.S. Constitution.
6) We believe that unborn children are JUST THAT !
7) We believe that these children deserve our love
and protection and it is our God given duty to see
that these children are not unnecessarially harmed.
8) We understand the conditions of Rape, Incest and
Life of the mother and believe that these exceptions
should be determined by the Woman, the Family and
Medical Doctor and the government has no role in
this issue.
9) We believe that this Nation was founded on Christian
values and principals and remains a Christian Nation
that is tolerante of other beliefs and religions.
10) We understand that being Christian has very little
to do with being religious.
11) We believe that "seperation of church and state" is
not now nor ever has been based on the content of
our Constitution. We know that the "Religious" clause
in the Constitution was ment to protect the Church
from the State and NOT to erradicate God from our
Society or Government.
12) We understand that the right to bear arms was
included in the Constitution "not to protect us from
foreign governments" but TO PROTECT US from our
own Government. A Nation where only the Government
has arms can never and will never be a "free" nation.
13) We believe in giving our fellow man a hand up, but
we never intended for the current state of our social
wealfare system to become a multi-generational
lifestyle.
14) We believe in neighbor helping neighbor and don't
expect the government to do everything for us.
15) We believe in States rights.
16) We believe that the Constitution sould be strictly
enforced and NOT rewritten into the Magna Carta
of the United Socialist States of America which is
the direct intent of the Clintonian Socilaist Party.
17) We believe in equality and hard work and responsibility.
We believe that people must take responsibility
for their actions and if need be suffer the consequences
of actions that are deemed unacceptable.
18) We believe that the "Village" can DARN WELL stay out
of our family buisness and WE know what is best
for our children and the best way to raise them.
19) We beieve in paying our "fair share" of taxes but we
do not believe that the government has the right to
squander the hard earned dollars that we send to them.
20) We believe that the "elected officals" of this Nation
(be they local, State or Federal) WORK FOR US and we
DO NOT work for them.

There are many, many other instances,statements I could
add, however, for the sake of all concerned, I believe that
these stated "beliefs" of what an "Old South Democrat" is
will suffice.

In closing, let me say to any or all Democrats who may
read this message: The Republican Party did not steal
religion or the Christian voters of this Nation. The Democrat
Party "lost" the Christian voters when they allowed the
American and Clintonian Socialist Parties to gain control
and dictate the directions/issues of the Democrat Party.
Far from being "stolen" by the Republican Party, we were
"BETRAYED AND DESERTED" by the Democrat Party.

All anyone has to do to know this is true is consider the
"beliefs" I have outlined and compare them to the current
Ideology / beliefs of today's Democrat Party. The truth
is the Democrat Party has NOT been the "party of the
people" for a very long time and they are to blame for
the loss of the Christian voters and the growing strength
of the Republican Party.

I, myself, am now an Independent Christian Conservationsit
and vote ONLY for those who recognize, support and
believe in my ideas of our Nation.

IR, you are a Zell Miller democrat. If all democrats were like you, this country would be in much better shape.

Mind you, there is a point in my calling you a newborn 'pub. The democrat party has been stolen by the communists, my friend. No, really. I could bet that true dems, like you, are few and far between. The new dem party - which we fondly call the demunist party - has nothing to do with the original one.

Either way, it's good to know that weyou and I agree on practically everything. :thumb:

Welcome to the conservative party. Seriously, you should consider changing your label. I understand from where you're coming and all, but in all honesty, if you refer to your self/ideology with that terminology today's average (and clueless) citizen wil have no idea what you're talking about (like people who refer to themselves as "classical liberals," it just leaves the peons scratching their heads). It's also likely to result in your getting responses like, "old southern democrat?" "You forgot #21: Owning black people." (as during the antebellum era it was the democrats who opposed ending slavery).

All of the things you listed sound conservationist in nature. Which is what today's conservative is. One seeking to conserve both the fiscal and social principles (what libertarians lack) of traditional America.

Today's left is the anti-thesis of traditional America (both fiscally and socially), being wholly marxist, their every word and deed seeks to change, erase, and replace our founding values with new, different, and what they portray as "better" ones.

Awesome, very great description and very motivating. You got it down to basics and in today's rhetoric simplicity is almost non exsistant. But from your description of a Southern Democrat, you only need one word to describe your political ideology, "Conservative."
Like Winston Churchill wrote of Sir Edmund Burke (Father of modern day Anglican Conservatives), "No one can read the Burke of Liberty and the Burke of Authority without feeling that here was the same man pursuing the same ends, seeking the same ideals of society and Government, and defending them from assaults, now from one extreme, now from the other."
Burke understood human beings need Liberty, but they also need Authority.
Burke also understood the balance between the Liberty of the individual versus the Authority of the governing body. Both have a personal responsibility to the other. The government works for the individual or group, but the individual or group must in turn recognize the authority of the governing body.
True conservatives understand this balance. Unfortunatly, this has been lost. People now, want a Nanny State of the European model and the State is more than happy to oblige.

The idea that the Republicans "stole" anything from the Democrats is lunacy on the part of any Democrat who would verbalize the thought.

My mother was an "Old South Democrat" right up to the moment Jimmy Carter began to disgrace the nation --about his third day in office, I think it was.

My dad, an "Old South Democrat" turned Republican when he cast his first vote for Dwight David Eisenhower.

My mother's twin brother was the one who convinced my dad that the Democrats, stemming from the Roosevelt administration, were taking the nation down the path to destruction with their economic policies. Uncle Buster's only issue with the Democrats was economics. He was a farmer/rancher out here in this flat, dry country; he was born and raised on a four-section ranch in 1922, and he never left the land.

My grandmother was left a widow in 1924, with three small children of her own and six or eight step-children still at home out of the thirteen children that granddaddy had when he and grandmother married. Yes, thirteen.

Grandmother and those children stayed on the land and managed to survive the Dust Bowl and Depression, and Uncle Buster was the one who inherited the land, and he never left it.

In about 1946, Uncle Buster began to "preach" to his fellow farmer/ranchers that they were going down the wrong path every time the went to the polls and voted for a Democrat: his contention was that when the Federal Government began to pay the farmer not to farm, the farmer was in deep trouble. The farmer just didn't have enough vision to know he was in trouble, but he was getting there. "You keep sending the damned Democrats back to Washington, and you're every one going to live to see bread selling for a dollar a loaf," was what he used to preach.

"Study your arithmetic," was another thing Uncle Buster used to preach.

I don't even want to tell you what he said when he sat in front of the television in the '60s and watched the American Flag being burned.

The Democrats have gone from taking us to rack-and-ruin economically, to dragging us into a sewer socially.

I don't know how anyone with two brain cells to rub together can look at the Democrat[ick] Party and vote for a Democrat.
