This thread is not a thread about Ron Paul himself, but about a lot of positions that he supports in government that I believe are VERY conservative and also admirable. I will start off with the one I agree with the most, and you guys can add the ones you agree with or disagree as we go along and discuss, but this is not a direct talk about the candidate himself, just his positions.

The reason I want to do this is because I wish a lot of republicans running for office would support some of the ideas Ron Paul is for.

My biggest one, and the position I advocate for the most: State's Rights. The states in our country were meant to be controlled by ropes, not iron bars. Currently, and for the last half century, the federal government has controlled this country with an iron grasp, when we should be held together by ropes. More flexibility and manuevering is available with ropes, than with iron. This allows states to decide social policies for themselves, along with many fiscal policies. Why has the government taken over so much of the country, and is involved in so much of our lives?

It is time for conservatives to go back to limited government, and support more states rights. This is a pro in my view with Ron Paul.

The single biggest thing I like about Ron Paul is that he will cut off foreign aid. With our debt at over 9 trillion we simply cannot afford to prop up other governments any more.

I could fill this thread with posts for hours, because the man is extremely complex.

Fortunately, you all are spared. My internet is being shut off in 2 hours whilst I attempt to switch providers, something they tell me will take a week. You all can breathe a sigh of relief... but I will be back!

I wish all of the republicans would jump on the destroy the IRS wagon. That is the best idea since chocolate ice cream.

My disagreement with this lies in that it would be hard to just cut it all off in one day, or even one year. I also believe in what we are fighting for, and I believe a republican candidate should believe in the war against Islam. Radical Islam is taking over large parts of the Middle East.

Another pro is his abortion views, which has been an important issue for me. I am against abortion unless the mothers life is in danger, always.

Apparently my internet won't be DC'ed for another 48 hours. grrr I hate earthlink.

Anyway...

EDIT: Ooops, I read your comment wrong, I thought you were insisting that his views might be pro-Choice, which they are not.

Ron is actually against abortion himself. He arrived at this conclusion when, being an OBGYN, he was required to watch one carried out while he stood by. I think a lot of people don't realize that abortion is a brutal practice. We give our murderers the death penalty in much more humane ways, but a child in the womb we suck it's brains out after gouging a hole in it's head with forceps.

However, his position is that abortion should be considered a states' rights issue. This is in line with most of his thinking, that if it isn't strictly mentioned in the constitution, then it's up to the states. He believes that if California wants to have a vote by the people, and the people decide to make abortion legal, then that should be California's prerogative. If Alabama or another Bible belt state wants to ban it, then that is their voter's choice.

If you want to make it the law of the entire country, then you should work to immediately overturn Row v. Wade and attempt to push a constitutional amendment. That's just the way our system was designed, and that's a good thing... lest we end up with hundreds of amendments that are not needed.

I wonder what his position on pepperoni pizza is. Does he like pan, new york style or crispy crust?

Would either one of those choices cause you to support him? No. No-no.

From the grim look on his face, I would guess he doesn't like pizza or much else.

Pizza haters deserve scorn...

You know, that is a much to often overlooked point. And it is true. I bet Dennis Kucinich and his tongue studded wife have trouble eating the combinations. Man they don't know what their missing. If they
could just remove them at dinner they might find a whole new life out there.

Not only is my candidate for president, Fred Thompson, right on every issue on which Ron Paul is right, but he's also right on every issue on which Ron Paul is wrong - e.g., Ron Paul wants us to lose World War IV, while Fred Thompson wants us to win.

. If Charen paid much attention to the campaign, she would know that Dr. Paul never utters the word “isolationist” except to explain why he is not one.

Before he was one, or after he will be one?

Give us a break. The man is the epitome of isolationism.
