I saw this and thought it was interesting, Bill O'Reilly and some big time right wing sites have called for boycotts and protests for theaters showing the film "Redacted". They've got a petition here and people will be outside theaters getting signatures.

I been boycotting Hollywood so long, Forrest Gump was news the last time I went to a movie, and that was in Puerto Rico. Prior to that it was Back to the Future II which I saw in Buenos Aires, and before that Body Heat in Panama.

Added: No, wait, I saw Ghost in El Salvador.

The film will get HUGE amounts of FREE EXPOSURE. People who didn't know about the movie, and those that were not INTERESTED in the movie will now be lining the block to buy ticks to SEE the movie that's causing such a huge outrage. Film Makers pockets will flow with cash. Why? Because the movie was good? Because it was something the public has been dying to see? NO! They'll get rich because people who do not LIKE the movie have raised such a huge stink about it, they drove THOUSANDS to see it, who would have otherwise rented Die Hard 27 Died Hard AGAIN, and stayed home to watch that instead.

Send a message to the film makers and the theaters that choose to play it... Don't go see it. Make it the LOWEST GROSSING MOVIE in history. When they LOOSE millions on the movie as opposed to MAKING the millions they stand to make from all the press generated by the outrage, they'll stop making movies like that. They'll stop hiring the pathetic actors who star in movies like that. Theaters will stop SHOWING movies like that, because they can't AFFORD to have empty theaters for 3 weeks with no sales of $20 tubs of pop corn!

But hey, what do I know. I have no desire to see the movie. I was never interested in seeing the movie. But with all the ager it's stirred, I've actually been CONSIDERING seeing it.

Not because it's good. Not because I think I'll like it, and CERTAINLY not because I agree with the sentiment. I'm considering it because my "morbid curiosity" is compelling me to go see what all the bullshit is about.

It's not the THEATER'S fault... it's not the FILM MAKERS fault that I am considering this... it's the fault of the people who are crying and bitching about it.

How many MORE of me do you think might be out there?

That's exactly what Mike Medved did - saw it for himself - and I get the idea he didn't care for it much:

This film is an atrocity. It is zero stars as far as I'm concerned. It's very much Rated R. I honestly was close to vomiting when I saw the film. I have seen a lot of unspeakable garbage in years and years of reviewing movies. Nothing quite like this. It is a slander on the United States of America. It is a slander on the Marine Corps. It is a slander on our troops. Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, paid for this entirely. Now he elsewhere has given money to support the troops. I know he has. He ought to be ashamed. Everyone associated with this film ought to be ashamed. I will never see a Brian De Palma film in the same way again. This is a veteran Hollywood director. What is he trying to do with this kind of thing? Will it inspire future terrorists? Of course it will! Because it portrays the United States troops in Iraq as sick, murderous, deviant losers.

It's like Passion Of The Christ. I was never one for biblical movies. And I especially hate movies that I am forced to "read" because it's spoken in a foreign language and relies on subtitles. I had no interest in seeing "The Passion" until the Jewish community started screaming that it was "anti-Semite propaganda". That made me curious to see how "ant-Semite" it was, so I bought the DVD. That's $29 Mel Gibson would NOT have earned, had people just shut the hell up about it and not watched it if they didn't like it.

And it will be the same with this movie. I will probably rent or buy the DVD when it comes out, not because I am in support of any "anti-American propaganda", but because it has so many people twisting themselves into knots, I'd like to see what all the fuss is about.

Quite true, but you see, I had no desire to "support" it until 5000 screaming assholes jumped out of their caves screaming at me to "boycott" this movie.

O'Riley, on the O'Riley factor on Fox News, he spent an entire show trying to brow beat everyone he talked to into coming down to the theater with him to protest the movie in front of a theater it was being shown at.

He devoted an hour to giving FREE PUBLICITY to a theater and a movie that, he said many times DURING that free publicity, should not be publicized. Go figure. "I don't want the American people to talk about this movie, and I am going to accomplish this by spending an hour TALKING about it on national television." Can you get any more retarded?

It was like Jeff Katz, a Conservative Talk show host in Charlotte NC, did 3 consecutive days of radio shows bitching about how much the MEDIA was discussing and publicizing the Anna Nicole Smith death. Ummm Hello Pot? This is Kettle... come in Pot....

Do these assholes, Katz, O'Riley and the rest ever actually LISTEN to their own shows? I have to guess no, if they did, they'd see how asinine they are and do us all a favor and quietly nip out behind the studio and shoot themselves.

Redacted, like Lions for Lambs, is bombing big time at the box office. Check out RightNation to see the article.

I signed the boycott not because I cared whether or not it would inspire others to do the same (or backfire and cause people to go see it). I signed the boycott because that movie was a slap in the face to every service member in the United States Military. Its a slap in the face to my son who was over there and treated Iraqi children for worms and other intestinal parasites. Well, Brian DePalma is a parasite, and a wealthy one at that. So is Mark Cuban. Michael Medved states that Cuban ought to be ashamed. One must have a conscience before one can feel shame. I wish nothing for Cuban or DePalma other than complete and utter misery the remainder of their lives. That is if I ever so much as give either of these sorry pieces of filth dressed in designer Hollywood another worthwhile thought.

Let's face it, like all internet billionaires, whether its the youtube clowns who cashed a check from Google for $1.6 B, the MySpace dorks who got Rupert Murdoch to front them funny money or Cuban with his internet radio con - all of them are online advertising vehicles. And all of them were waaaay overpriced based on rhetoric about 'the new media'.

Its not like any of these 'ideas' are exceptional. They were just people who accidentally had the right idea at the right time. Now, they're so-called 'moguls'. What was eBay? It was a site that a husband started for his wife to trade Beanie Babies so that he could get her off his back. Now the bitch flies jets to important meetings and stuff and gives speeches to savvy audiences about 'the internets'.

And Cuban scored big off the internet lottos. Now, he screeches in the stands at Notwitzki like an ape. He makes his basketball team worser for it, like a wife harping on her husband. Look at them, a good team all year, but when they get into the finals, they get douched harder than Rosie O'Donnell and a liter of motor oil. And its because of the dude with the ugly mug and the bowl haircut. And the teeth, let's not forget that row of unproportional, gigantic chicklets. Its like someone took a terracota bowl and smashed it from left to right with a samurai sword and then took the biggest, sharpest piece and inserted it into his upper lip like Pac Man.

And the fact that he is a snotty scuz does not help either. It didn't help when he tried to copy Trump's The Apprentice with the knockoff bomb The Benefactor. They kicked that show off the air quicker than the time it took to film the first episode.

So now the spoiled bitch pouts a lot. He pouts in the stands, he rages at his players, he walks around like a gloomy puss, mad at the world, mad that chucking money at shit doesn't always work, especially since someone chucked a bunch of money at him, but all it did was create a failure. But that's the problem with internet one hit wonders who cash out. Nothing they created was ever truly tangible, it was not hard won either, and the money lobbed at 'em was so unreal they have little appreciation for what it means. And so, living in that world of unreality with unfathomable bank accounts kind of creates further unreality. Its not like Warren Buffet who worked several decades honing his craft of money-making based on companies that produced real things doesn't understand the value of honest to god scrilla, but most internet revenue besides porn(the real reason the internet does make money) is ad-based which can never be measured, thus its as flaky as a leper's gangrenous ballsack.

So Mark Cuban tries to be relevant. He tries really hard to be as important as his money, which is fukin hard. I mean Sam WalMart really did sumpin. As did Mr. Meineke. As did the inventor of the Pet Rock! But getting money from the hopeful future ad space of innard-net radio was only because of some other idiot with a lot of money who made a poor decision, and one based on timing. It didn't have anything to do with Mr. Cuban and he knows it so he blows a gasket whenever the Mavericks fart at the line. And now he makes a movie to demonize US soldiers which will be used to murder more US soldiers, or, US civilians. Because he's mad as hell. He's mad when he wakes up and mad when he goes to bed. He's mad when he takes a shit and mad when he shampoos his chesthair. He's mad at life and mad in general. He's frustrated and mad and kind of dumb and awkard-looking and he's mad because of that too.

Bascially, the boy's not as smart as he thinks he is and now this is just further proof. Good 'ol anti-US agitprop just like every other sullen leftist piece of crap, score one Mr. Cuban. Finally, he's accomplished something real that he can put his name to after all these years of failure. Finally, he's made it.

Absolutely agree... not necessarily about the movie (haven't seen it, don't really have plans to)... but about the counter-productive nature of trying to stop others from watching it... or in general, trying to stop others from consuming any particular book/movie/song/etc.

Silence and non-participation isn't a very satisfying statement, but it's better than generating more interest.

Not really Sarah, only the greenies, who will go see it anyway. I suppose we wouldn't say anything about everything if we worried that doing so would sell others to do it. Like telling people not to jump off a cliff, because we are afraid they would do it. If that were the case, lets tell every idiot not to jump off he cliff.

In fact those recent movies have tanked because of the word getting out. Americans like to win. They know the evil intent of movies like this. I am pleasently suprised, and it bodes well for our country, that they are being rejected out of hand, especially right now. It shows Americans are not buying the far-left cowards plea for surrender. It bodes well for the GOP candidates, except Ron Paul. I bet we will start to see the Democrats putting on the facad of being for a strong military, when the wind starts changing like it is.

Paying what it costs for a family to go to a movie, buying popcorn and drinks, etc., is just nutty to do it, to then be told what a fool your country is. I don't know any real American who is curious about learning that message.

Its nutty to do it to be told what a fool your country is.

I guess you could look at it that way. Or we can look at it another way...

You're "campaigning" to "Boycott" this move... why?

You say it's because it's full of Anti-American propaganda. You say we should all avoid seeing it because it's anti-American, it trashes our troops, etc.

So I have to ask... Have you seen it? Did you go watch it? No? Well, that would mean you are incapable of making an informed decision for yourself. All you're able to do is blindly follow what other people tell you to do.

See, we can look at it a COUPLE different ways.

From all I have heard about it, everyone calls it "Anti-American" and says it "trashes our troops", but all anyone ever does is mention a scene that contains American Soldiers raping or killing an iraqi girl. That is the one scene that EVERYONE comments on when they talk about this movie.

So am I to assume that is a 2 hour long scene? That is the ONLY scene this movie contains? If the movie is "full of Anti-American Propaganda", why only high-light that one scene? Why is it just that one scene that everyone comments on. MOST of whom, I might add, have not even GONE TO SEE THAT SCENE. They bitch, and scream and mouth off about something they have NEVER SEEN.

But what about other movies? I forget the name of it... a Vietnam Movie, with Michael J. Fox in it.. Scenes of American G.I's raping a young Vietnamese girl. Where were all the protests for that movie?

How about Platoon? With it's MANY scenes depicting American G.I.'s doing things that would bring shame to our armed forces. Did you enjoy THAT movie?

How are you going to sit in this thread, and speak on authority, telling everyone how "Anti-American" a movie is when the ONLY information you have is "what someone else told me"?

I don't know any real American who is curious about learning that message.

I'm a "greenie" and apparently not a "Real American". You know, I wish you would have informed me of my "Imitation American" status BEFORE I joined the military to protect your rights.

In my opinion, a "Real American" would go learn about something first hand, not base his "wisdom" on what someone else told told him. Hmmmm kind of throws YOUR status into question a little? Maybe?

Any asshole can blindly follow. Takes a bit of intelligence to actually EXPERIENCE something first hand.

I don't know... I guess I'm just not fond of being called an "Un-American Greenie". Who woulda thunk it?

What has your being fond of something ever had anything to do with it?

However since reading your recent post, I think you would like the movie. I think I'm going to have to ask you to go see it. Report back with the specifics on it please.

Please Prince, don't cheapen it any further. Greenies are green.

I have to have a real interest/desire to spend the time and money to watch a movie; as opposed to needing a reason to stay away. I just assume that most of the product coming from Hollywood is not worth the time or the money. It's up to Hollywood to convince me otherwise. They're not able to do that very often. Especially given their leftwing bias.

I am no fan of boycotts, and now that this garbage film has tanked by grossing just a pathetic 25 K in its opening weekend, there really is no purpose. The message is already loud and clear- Americans don't want to see our troops depicted as racists, murderers, and rapists. I hope Brian de Palma lost a lot of his own money making this filth.
