If you want to get your brain screwed up without drugs or alcohol, try watching the following movies over one weekend.
Fahrenheit 451
1984 (John Hurt, 1984) {I liked Barack Obama's ending better.}
THX 1138 (Directors cut)
Brave New World
- deviation from the theme - Grindhouse Planet Terror just to see what the fuss was about
- and to cap it off - at this point seeming like light comedy - Animal Farm
Notes:
... I'm actually doing my own review of the history of sci-fi which now includes soft sci-fi dystopian films (Metropolis was last weekend) and the understanding it takes to mention "soft sci-fi dystopian films".
If you want to join in and start at the beginning, I suggest taking a look at History of science fiction films on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_science_fiction_films
You can see Le Voyage dans la Lune (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Voyage_dans_la_Lune) (A Trip to the Moon) and Metropolis free on the internet. I'm waiting for a DVD copy of Frau im Mond (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frau_im_Mond) (Woman in the Moon) to arrive and have already seen First Men in the Moon. I am looking for a copy of "Just Imagine" - possibly the only science fiction musical comedy? Rumor is that it's only shown on Fox from time to time - no other copies available.
Plenty of classics and favorites in my collection now. Not sure what I'm waiting for, but haven't opened the box yet on the 1953 version of War of the Worlds ...
