Ron Paul: No Third-Party Bid for Me

Susan Davis reports on the 2008 presidential campaign.
For presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, the quest for the Republican Party nomination is an all or nothing game.

--snip--

Paul insisted, however, that he’s not interested in being a potential spoiler in 2008. “That’s the way it stands,” he said.

More Rupaul (http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2007/10/05/ron-paul-no-third-party-bid-for-me/)

We will see if "Mr Integrity" keeps his word or if he is just another in a long line of self absorbed lying politicos!!!

It would appear that his devout supporters believe he is a liar when making that promise. Several of them are now saying his plan all along was to go 3rd party. Quite happy to spoil the election for the GOP. Quite shocking really to hear their gleeful prediction.

I have seen no quotes where he himself completely rules it out and promises/guarentees not to run.

There are no guarentees in politics.....ever.

We voted the son of "Read My Lips" into office twice....betcha thought that was in stone too huh?

That's an assumption from the writer, Paul himself always leaves the chance open, often saying this like, "I won't rule it out, but it's not even something on my mind right now...98% sure" etc.

I really wish he would run 3rd party, Hillary always chooses the easiest target.

I have seen no quotes where he himself completely rules it out and promises/guarentees not to run.

No, he didn't sign a written contract, but if you look at his exact wording that he uses every time he's been asked this question:

“I did it and I know what the problems are. Unfortunately this country does not offer democratic opportunities. There’s too many rules and laws and bias against an alternative party whether you’re left or right or wherever you’re coming from. You can’t get on debates, you can’t get on ballots.”

That's what he said three years ago when he decided not to challenge President Bush. He's oriented in reality here.

No, "we" didn't. Bush '41 made the pledge in '88 so he'd sound like Reagan. Being a typical RINO, he caved to Democrat party pressure two years later and broke his word and raised taxes. That alone sealed his fate as a one-term president.

Bush 41 was a 1 term POTUS... Do you get all your info from Wiki?

On one thread you "boast" about your education level and in another you prove that book smarts doesn't translate into common sense...

Thing is, I think he has been running as a 'Pub so he can get media attention, get on debates & ballots, get his name out there. Once the primary is over, he will "switch", in essence putting truth (at least in my mind, and I'm sure in many others) that he only "ran" as a 'Pub because by his own admition he wouldn't have gotten the attention he needed to fuel his third party run if he'd have gone with the truth (his inention to run as a third party spoiler), i.e. made the switch before the primaries to run as an Independent/Third Party candidate. To me, he's even MORE disgusting that Ross Perot.

Haha, yeah, that didn't make a whole lot of sense. Sometimes my lucidity is lost after a few "after-work bourbons."

By the way, I don't boast. ThomasMore said I had no education, I simply refuted that. Easy there, boy.
