Do You Have the 'Desire' to Be President? (http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/12/do-you-have-the.html)
ABC News' Christine Byun Reports: Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson's 'desire' to become the next President was probed by an undecided caucus-goer during a campaign stop in Burlington, Iowa.
I LOVE Fred's answer, absolutely LOVE it!
He said his campaign is not driven by his own "personal ambition," but by his hopes the country will elect the "best" candidate for the job.
"I will not be devastated if I don’t do this. I want people to have the best President that they can have," Thompson said, adding later, "I’m offering myself up."

Shocking! Absolutely shocking! A Presidential candidate wanting the best person to win? What's this country coming too? Next thing you know, people will start acting civilised, taking personal responsibility for their actions and who knows what else! Someone call the ACLU! Someone call Al Charlatin! Someone call Reverend Jessie!!!

LOL! Well, I know you're undecided, and you hate his percieved "un-enthusiasm"(although I'd point out that it's merely the MSM portraying him to be unenthusiastic, the guy has a great personality and is very "into" it), but perhaps you should vote based on a candidates principles, rather than personality.

Hopefully, the more peeps learn about the other candidates the more they'll lean towards The Fred.

I think that personality is important when you are leading and country and becoming a dipolmat to other countries. That man has as much personality as I do cars.... only the ones people give me a lift in.
I have difficulty voting for someone who is not in it to win it. If he gets the nomination I'll vote for him because I like his voting record. But I will not vote for him in the primaries, that will go to someone else, who wants it, and is capable IMO.

People often mistake my laid back Southern demeanor with laziness. They could't be more wrong. Ill take on those nasty-ass yankees any place, any time. Hand to Hand.

Hey now, not all yankees are nasty-ass. Most of us certaintly arn't. And I dont think this has anything to do with lazy. As a matter of fact I have never reffered to Fred as lazy. Thats something people defending him say those who dont like use as an excuse.
I for one havn't heard anyone else use "lazy" in reference to Fred either.

I think the biggest plus to garner from his personality Prez is that unlike the "lifelong groomed" candidates like the Clintons, Gore and Kerry, FDT isn't trying to buy and BS his way to the POTUS with an agenda. He's not trying to stack the SCOTUS with left wing Justices to craft an immoral agenda to jam down our throats. From what I see, he knows this country is great and I'm sure he will try to bring out the greatness in all Americans, like a true conservative would. He looks to understand the danger to this country, unlike many of the candidates in both parties, and I trust that he will do what is in our best interest. Just my 2 cents dear.

The man has a somewhat dry wit. It would be a mistake to consider that a lack of interest or personality. People with different personalities can portary the same attributes in very different ways.

Funny how people react so differently to different things.
What I LOVE about Fred's campaing is the total absence of the tiresome "Vote for ME! ... I'll save the world! ... I'm the Second Comming! ... When I'M president, ..."
Aw, pipe down already!
Maybe it's just me, but I like a person who does not BEG for my vote. As for the usual promises of "saving the world," that sounds (to me) SO much like a used-car salesman, a snake oil peddler ... a politician our for his/her own aggrandizement.
Unlike other losers we always hear about during presidential election campaigns, a candidate who begs for my vote does NOT make me "feel special." It makes me distrustful, more like it. Being pretty self-assured, I don't need to be sucked up to, or coddled. You see, I understand that ELECTIONS ARE NOT ABOUT ME. They are about what's good for the country. Fred gets that. It makes him sound so much more reliable.
Besides, I like people who play hard to get (just as long as they don't overplay it; then it just gets tedious). Makes the chase more interesting.

I would happily wager against your prediction sir. Feel free to put your money where your mouth is.
I take what Fred says as he doesn't have the energy to wage a campaign such as this. He's barely trying. His campaign is broke, his staff is nill.
He will finish last or close to it.

Actually, RP will likely finish just ahead of McCain, just behind the Ghoul. I expect the Huckster to win, FDT in a close 2nd, with Romney a not so distant 3rd...

Iowa Caucus:
Poll RCP Average
Romney 28.0
Huckabee 27.6
McCain 11.8
Thompson 11.0
Giuliani 6.0
Paul 6.0

What I find most interesting is that Rudy is tied with RP for last place. Regardless of who wins Iowa, maybe the media will get the message and finally start covering some of the candidates besides their own chosen golden child. I won't hold my breath though.

Well as far as the broke thing, I would be willing to debate that. Secondly, barley trying? He has had the hardest campaign schedule of them all. Thridly, where are these numbers on his campaign staff and the source.? Finally, RP is a fine example, that all the money in the world does not buy votes. R.P. in Iowa, average 6%, nationally 4.3%. Yeah that war chest is really helping eh?

BIRD, your avatar is the epitome of self-aggrandizing politicians like Rupaul. It's a political soap opera: the populist hero, who kisses/hugs/holds babies wrapped in the American flag. Awwwwwwww.
BTW, I'm sure the baby in question is dirt poor, and preferably, the offspring of a pot-smoking mother (Rupaulists equate smoking pot with constitutional freedom, don't they?). Also, I bet his daddy died in the "horrible, unwinnable war that George Bush started only because he thinks the USA should police the world." Otherwise, your avatar is not genuinely Rupaulist.
And you expect us to respect that? Give us a break already, love.

Fred's in this race so that real conservatives don't have to choose the lesser evil of that group.
Fred is 99.9% conservative, everyone else is 85% and lower. Why would you ignore him because he's "not in it to win it"?
Btw, Fred is working his ass off to get votes, more than the other canidates. He's actually taking the time to get to know the people he might be working for one day.

One needs only to evaluate his stance on the issues and compare them to the competition.. There really is no comparison!
