</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is seriously moving toward a decision to run for president as an independent in 2008 — and his aides are already laying the groundwork for a Bloomberg campaign.
Next weekend Bloomberg will join Democratic and Republican statesmen at the University of Oklahoma in an effort to push major party candidates into renouncing partisan gridlock.
-- snip --
Bloomberg has consistently insisted that he has no plans to run for the White House. But in private talks with friends and associates, he has suggested he would give serious thought to a run if the opposing major party candidates are poles apart — for example, if Mike Huckabee is the GOP candidate and is opposed by Barack Obama or John Edwards.
In that case, Bloomberg might decide “those candidates are vulnerable to a challenge from a pragmatic, progressive centrist, which is how he would promote himself,” the Times observes.

Per the NY Times he could be seeking to run on an Anti-gun/environmental platform. That's a winner every time!!!

Does everyone who holds office in New York think that qualifies them to be President?

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is seriously moving toward a decision to run for president as an independent in 2008 To what purpose????
Where are the clamouring masses demanding this man (he is a man isn't he? I barely have ever heard of him) ride in on his steed and save the nation? In fact how many people outside of the media and New York state even know who this guy is?
If this isn't the definition of an enormous ego trip I don't know what is...
In any event, at best all he can do is rob votes from the left... By all means, run for the Whitehouse...

This isn't lazy... Let me tell you what this is...
This is Bloomberg at a dinner party held in his own home for a herd of adoring asskissers who he keeps close in order to massage his enormous ego... These parasites stay close to him to catch the crumbs (no doubt significant in size for crumbs) that fall from his table, and they sing in unison both day and night, "You de man, You de man, glory halleluia, You de man.."
No doubt on this occasion, one of the more intuitive roaches, sensing that Bloomberg was growing bored with his aquisition of the Mayor's seat, needing some new stimulus to stiffen his flacid ego, lept (lept, mind you) forward to suggest that Bloomberg was SOOOO de man, that he should run for the Whitehouse - nay, even he is the only one who can save the nation from the crisis that looms large before it...
And although none of the parasites could put an actual name or face to the crisis cited, they all immediately took up the new hymn, stroking the flacid ego, engorging Bloomberg with a new boost of self-importance, and demanding that he take up the gauntlet - thus ensuring the parasite herd positions in his campaign staff and serving their own not-so-insignificant egos...
The fact that not the first one of them have the slightest clue as to what America is facing today is completely irrelevant... To them an independant political party is just that - A Party..! Due to last them at least until next November...

This is absolutely the last thing Americans need. If Bloomberg decides to run as an Indepent, he'll steal thousands of votes from the Republicans, thereby aiding a horrible Liberal to the Presidency(Barack, Clinton, or Edwards). He has the money, the power, and the connections to run a powerful campaign. Let's hope he stays put.

I don't see many conservatives going for that.

You're kidding, right? Bloomberg won't be swiping votes from 'Pubs, 'ceptin' maybe the RINO 'Pubs from New Yahk. Bloomberg is no threat to the Republicans, and I can't see he'd be much threat to the Dimmies either. More like an idiot with delusions of grandeur and relevance, :smirky:.
