Driver Charged With Vehicular Homicide After Pickup Hits Minivan, Killing Mom and 4 Kids

TOLEDO, Ohio — A drunken driver from Michigan sped down a highway in the wrong direction for about seven miles before his pickup truck slammed into a minivan carrying a family home after a holiday trip, police said.

A woman and four children in the minivan, including two authorities say were from Michigan, were killed in the crash that scattered toys, stuffed animals and bits of gift wrap along the edge of the road.

Tests showed that the pickup truck's wrong-way driver had a blood-alcohol level of .254 percent, more than three times the legal limit in Ohio of .08, police said.

Strangely, that seems to be the case often. A girl I dated in high school was killed years ago when she got a ride home from a drunk driver. He drove off the road and flipped the vehicle. She was ejected and the truck rolled over her. He woke up the next day with minor injuries, and when told he was in an accident, asked if his truck was OK. He had no memory of what he did or how she died in the ditch on the side of the road.

It was weird because I was leaving a friend's house that night, and once I got to the stop sign at the end of the road, I noticed flashing lights down a couple of miles to the right. I thought about going by to take a look but ended up opting to turn left and go home as it was late and I had work the next day. I found out from a state trooper friend the next day that the lights were his as he told me what happened.

This guy should get the strictest punishment possible (though having him run over by a minivan full of the victims' family would be rather fitting).

I once was on a highway near boston one night and had some jackass coming at me head on in the same manner. I was fortunate enough to see him coming pretty far off and pulled right and stopped. I called 911 and reported him, but I don't think they ever found the dude.

I agree, but only after making him walk 12 hours a day in public areas for a year wearing a sandwich sign saying, "I drove while drunk and killed 5 people"

I think anyone who drinks and drives and then kills someone as a result should be charged with 1st degree murder. We've all been told of the dangers and that it's wrong. We all know it! To get into the drivers seat drunk IMO is saying that someone plans to kill someone making it pre-meditated murder.

So this idiot in Michigan might get charged with aggravated vehicular manslaughter as the article says but our injustices system will no doubt allow him to plea down. 4 children and a mother are dead because of this. When will this country ever get tough on these people?
