France bans smoking in Public Places (?!?)

The dangling cigarette hanging from a French hipster's lips will soon be a thing of the past -- at least in the cafes, clubs and bars.

On New Year's Day, a ban on smoking in public places (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=17716276&ft=1&f=1001) goes into effect throughout France.

Ok, having lived in France, this one kind of shocks me. This used to be the epitome of a Frenchman. When I was in 9th grade, I was the oddball at school, because I was the only kid in my grade who didn't smoke. I kid you not.

Man, this is a surprise.
