India's giant Tata Group plans to launch the world's cheapest car early in January while also looking set to drive off with two of the poshest marques — Ford's iconic Jaguar and Land Rover brands.
Ratan Tata, head of the tea-to-steel Tata conglomerate, will unveil the "People's Car" January 10 at a New Delhi auto show that will carry a sticker price of 100 000 rupees, or $2500, which some analysts say could revolutionise automobile costs worldwide.
And Tata, which has been on an aggressive overseas expansion drive, is also expected to win its reported two-billion-dollar bid for the British Land Rover and Jaguar brands in January — putting it in the unusual position of making two prestige cars as well as the world's lowest-cost automobile.

Let's see. The first "People's Car" I heard about was the Volkswagen that, as I remember, was designed and manufactured at the behest of Adolph Hitler in about 1935. I remember seeing a photo from around that time of Hitler riding in a Volkswagen convertible.

Actually, there IS a cheaper one, which will be seen on American roads when the latest DC "energy" travesty takes effect.

What ARE you boys talking about? I happen to own a bulldog named Bodacious (don't believe me, check the Pets Forum), and thought that would make a good name for the new car when added to the name of the creator.
What did y'all think I meant? :halo:

Anybody seen one of these on the road yet? I seem to remember reading they'd be available after the first of the year.
You might need to use a magnifying glass to see it.

I saw them all over the place when I lived in France. They're actually not too bad in the way of seat comfort etc, as long as you're under 6 foot, lol.
My main thought when I saw one of those in France was, "I would hate to see what would happen when an 18 wheeler came into contact with one of those."
I suppose we'll see eventually.

As Greenpeace activists outside the show held banners demanding “Cut CO2 emissions”, Mr Tata dismissed environmental concerns. He said that his car, which does 50 miles to the gallon, would conform to all emission standards in India and Europe. “We need to think of our masses. Should they be denied the right to an individual form of transport?” he asked. The ecowackos don't give a shit about rights. They want power to dictate how we live. I say kill the pains in the ass.
