Uh-oh. More ethnic violence/cleansing! And I thought the UN said such things would never happen again!!!

NAIROBI, Kenya - A mob torched a church where hundreds had sought refuge Tuesday, and witnesses said dozens of people — including children — were burned alive or hacked to death with machetes in ethnic violence that followed Kenya's disputed election.

The killing of up to 50 ethnic Kikuyus in the Rift Valley city of Eldoret brought the death toll from four days of rioting to more than 275, raising fears of further unrest in what has been one of Africa's most stable democracies.
The latest violence recalled scenes from the genocide in Rwanda in 1994, when more than a half-million people were killed. The question facing Kenya is whether the politicians will lose control of the mobs, triggering a civil war.

You can bet there's Marxists running loose over there, stirring up ethnic hatreds and mistrusts and jealousies and resentments. Onliest thing I can think of that would at least stop the ethnic cleansing is to separate every single ethnic group from every other, giving each its own country. Of course, almost none of them has established bureaucracies capable of running a country, and in no time nepotism and other corruptions would ruin them all, but that's pretty-well the case anyway.

Unfortunately, Africa is populated with folks who can't seem to rise above the tribal mentality. Society can organize along tribal lines so long as it (society) remains small; but as the population increases and groups begin unavoidably to impinge on each other's living space, experience is needed with impartial institutions and bureaucracies that govern according to law rather than tribal norms.

Africa has never had this because the continent is so large that whenever conflict arose, one of the tribes just moved away. Africa essentially has no navigable rivers, so that trade between tribes never grew up as it did in Europe and each tribe remained essentially alone in its universe. Hence inventions in one place never had the chance to spread to other places.

Africa would have benefited, as India did, from British colonization. Wherever the Brits went they left functioning institutions behind, staffed with civil servants who knew how to administer a govt. Africa got colonized by krauts and Dutchmen and Belgians who just wanted to extract mineral wealth and didn't give a hoot about governing. Hence the locals never learned how to run a modern govt.

THAT is the true legacy of white colonialism in Africa, and the continent is paying for it today and will continue to pay for it in blood and horror as far into the future as the eye can see.

Anyone from the West who volunteered to run the place would be accused of racism, even if they were black; but Africa really does need to be organized and run for the benefit of Africans, as happened in South Africa prior to that country being turned over. South Africa was well run even if racist. Sadly, the whole world pressured South Africa to turn over govt to blacks who weren't ready, and today the once-richest country on the continent and one of the richest in the world, is among the poorest and worst run.
