Millions of people with arthritis, asthma and even heart failure will be urged to treat themselves as part of a Government plan to save billions of pounds from the NHS budget.

Instead of going to hospital or consulting a doctor, patients will be encouraged to carry out "self care" as the Department of Health (DoH) tries to meet Treasury targets to curb spending.

Pay your taxes, support that bloated bureaucracy, keep those politicians going -- and treat yourself, suckah.

Government run healthcare at it's finest! Lovely, ain't it!

This will of course not be given a paragraph or ten seconds of coverage in the DBM. The facts about socialized medicine would impact the campaigns of the DemonRATs, all of whom have a "health care" plan based on Big Government. And rest assured that the bloated, ugly pig Moore will not make a crockumentary about the utter failure of the "health care" systems that his fictional "Sicko" lauded.

Rality is a bitch.

A glimpse into our future under Hitlery, Obama or Edwards... Throw in the huge TAX INCREASE to fund our "FREE" health care and this looks like we have exciting times ahead... Whoo hoo, I can't wait.....

"self care"? This reminds me of that commercial where the guy is on the phone with his doctor, has a knife in his hand, and the doctor tells him to make an incision, and the guy says "Shouldn't you be doing this?"

I haven't seen the ad, but this whole thing sounds like the NHS expecting the whole country spend the night -- every night -- at the Holiday Inn, just in case.

Heart failure? It's kind of hard to treat yourself when you're dead, no?

Of course, that will indeed save a little sterling.

DtS: It's kind of hard to treat yourself when you're dead, no?

NHS: That's a weak excuse. Next!

This is a double pronged problem.

On one side is a government that wants to start limiting health care. Like Thompson says. A government big enough to do anything for you, is big enough to do anything to you.

On the other hand, is a populace so used to popping off to the doctor for everything that it has lost the capacity for taking care of themselves. I've talked to some Brits that can't understand why I'd take an aspirin for a headache when I could go to the doctor and have the aspirin administered.

We have the same problem with illegals in California. Rather than wipe a runny nose, they run off to an emergency room for a free nose wipe.

But that's piss poor triage.
