Californians braced Thursday for back-to-back weekend storms that could bring more than a foot of rain to mudslide-prone canyons denuded by the fall wildfires, dump up to 10 feet of snow in the Sierra Nevada and buffet the state with hurricane-force winds. The first in a trio of storms began with sprinkles along Northern California coast, but the heaviest precipitation—and possibly the most rain Southern California has seen in three years—was expected Friday night and Saturday.
Forecasters issued a rare blizzard warning for the Sierra Nevada, with up to 10 feet of snow expected in some areas above the 5,000-foot level, and predicted 30-foot coastal swells by Saturday.
Winds of 75 mph to 80 mph could hit the San Francisco area by Friday, with hurricane-force gusts pummeling communities all along the northern coast, forecasters said.
"If you're not in the Sierras by this evening, don't go. It's a life-and-death situation," said Ken Clark, a senior meteorologist at Accuweather.com. "It's going to be an all-out blizzard."

Wow. Wish I owned a snug cabin way up the woods there. Blizzards are fun when you're safe and warm and got all you need for several weeks. You can sit frunnah the fire and sneer at the weather, knowing it cain't touch you.

I don't believe most residents of Californication are aware of the concept of self sufficiency. They'd rather have Big Brother do it for them.

This is great news! CA has been having lots of water problems lately.

I do wish we would have another El Nino though. Nothing like a month long storm, 2-3 feet of rain and 50-foot waves. They had to bring in cops to keep surfers from killing themselves when it last hit in '98.

So I guess I will have to settle for this until 2013 or so when El Nino comes back. :D

Yeah, we depend a lot on the snow fall in the high country and here on the valley floor for our water supply. It tends to keep the water table higher, and the run-off in the spring helps with the irrigation. Of course the flat landers and Californicator part-time "residents" bitch and moan because it interferes with their recreating etc........f**k 'em!

edit: of course these same asswarts also bitch and moan in the winter if the snow fall doesnn't measure up to their expectations when they're here for the skiing in the mountains.........can't please the MF'rs.

I think.

That was a terrible storm that went through my area with 60+ mph gusts and really heavy rain. Alas, we may have to replace both the back and side fences in the backyard. :(
