The Fred did OK for a man who the MSM said has no fire in his belly. And I see those people fell for the Huckster's snake oil pitch.

It won't take long for the Huckster to be exposed for what he is - a RINO.

Rush Limbaugh, without officially coming out against Huckabee, is doing everything he can to get the word out. It might not have changed Iowa or NH, but by SC, Huckabee is going to have to deal with an increasingly informed conservative electorate.
The interesting dynamic is how many people will continue to prefer Huckabee to Thompson or Romney because Huckabee is coming out as the "evangelical" candidate -- although I am hearing that he is left-of-center in his religious perspective, too.

The RAT spread is fairly close, but it's still good that the Bitch Queen is third.
Updated at Drudge: Obama 37.30; Edwards 29.96; Clinton 29.53
We'll have to wait until tomorrow for the final results.

Wasn't a real shock that so many people fell for Huckabee and his religious liberalism
Although the turnout was pretty impressive, we were at standing room only.
We had
Huckabee 47%
Thompson 20%
Romney 15%
Paul 6%
McCain 5%
Hunter 4%
Rudy 3%
Too bad Thompson couldn't have done as well statewide.
I was with Hunter until I saw he only had a few other supporters, then I went with Thompson to try and stop Huckabee. There were a couple of impassioned speeches that turned some people away from Huckabee, but most of his supporters are fanatical about his evangelism. They have come to think that voting for someone else is blasphemy.

Don't count her out yet. Bubba lost until New Hampshire, where he became "The Comeback Kid" if you remember.
I really really really really hope that doesn't happen.
Tom pulled out Dec 20. Five people are feeling very silly right about now.

This is good news for teh Fred, who's looking for his big bump when the race heads south to SC and LA. More than one President in recent history has placed no better than third in Iowa.
As for Huckabee, just to keep things in perspective.. Carter came in first in Iowa too. :smirky:
I spoke to my Dad after the caucus (he's an Iowan) and he said that in his precinct at least, the Paul supporters were mostly old bachelor farmers who were adamantly declaring things like, "The evil gub-mint is buildin' a highway from Me-hi-co to Canada raht through my backyard! They been surveyin' it with black hellychopters. Saw one last naht hooverin' over my cows!"
:ooo:
That explains a few things.
Haven't spoken to my brother yet (the big lib) about how his caucus went down in Leftyville. I'm guessing he's going to be disappointed about Biden or Dodd, whichever, (are these guys identical twins?) dropping out. To be honest though, I don't think any of the 'Rats even Care who they picked this year.. other than outward appearances and speaking style, their guys (and gal) are virtual clones when it comes to the issues.

Since 90% of the Republicans voted against Ron Paul in a state that is a hotbed of isolationism, it's highly likely that Iowa will end up being the high watermark of the RuPaul campaign (he may match those numbers in a couple of other states that are also hotbeds of isolationism).
That's the good news.
71% of the Iowa Republican voters voted for RINOs.
That's the bad news.

:rotflmbo: Good point Sooz!
Let's put it in a better perspective... Iowa and New Hampshire are both Liberal states... Did anyone actually believe they would gallop at full speed and fling themselves into Fred's waiting arms? For Crissakes, its Iowa and New Hampshire...
The significant results of this rather insignificant pre-election are not in the winners - I could have predicted that pretty closely - Any RINO can WIN Iowa... But the fact the Fred came in 3rd in a Liberal state where two RINOs were battling for bragging rights is the unnoted and overlooked fact that should be scaring the living shit out of everyone on both sides of the fence...
Let me put it in not-so-subtle terms... If Fred can pull off 3rd place, beating out two of the most liberal RINOs (McCain and Giuliani) in a Liberal state, what's he gonna do when the real conservative and heartland states hold their primaries?...
Im seeing these results as absolutely POSITIVE for the good guys... Now let's get past New Hampshire and move on to the real politics...

How's that supposed to make us feel better? :( Carter won.
I know, I know, the point I was trying to make though, was that Iowan Republicans aren't exactly Conservative on all issues.. Social issues and character are pretty much All they care about.
And I probably should have expanded it a little more.. Carter won the Presidency yes, but it's actually Rare that the winner in Iowa ends up in the White House. Since 1976, only Carter (in 1976) and W. (in 2000) have gone on to win contested primaries. That's only a 2 for 10 record..
But in truth, I wasn't paying full attention when I posted that 'cause I was tired. You caught me. :smirky:
I still wouldn't let Huck's win in Iowa worry me too much though.
