10 Things a Political Junkie Hates About Politics (http://www.townhall.com/Columnists/JohnHawkins/2008/01/04/10_things_a_political_junkie_hates_about_politics)
* Fear Of Offending Anyone: Because politicians are always thinking about the next election instead of actually serving the people who put them into office, they're terrified of actually doing anything that might offend someone.
< snip , snip >
* Politics Not Stopping At The Water's Edge: There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with your political opponent's foreign policy, but there is a problem when you put your petty political concerns ahead of the good of the country.

Do you agree, or disagree?

For the most part, I do agree with his points...Hawkins makes some VERY good observations.
However, his 2nd paragraph needs some explaining: They are terrified to put an end to illegal immigration because that might offend Hispanics.
Hispanic US CITIZENS are pissed off about the blind eye turned to their illegal countrymen being "given a pass". The party that takes a hard line on ILLEGAL immigration is going to get 70+% of the Hispanic voting block. They can't call for an end to Affirmative Action, which is a racist policy that discriminates against white people, because that might offend blacks.
It should offend blacks because AA basically states that they're too stupid to make it without a government hand-out. The party that boldly embraces equal OPPORTUNITY and truly implements said, will in two election cycles get the black vote. They can't say anything nice about the Boy Scouts because that might offend gays.
Who gives a rosy rat's rear-end about 4% of the US population? Good grief, grow a pair, will ya? 96% of America is HETEROsexual...y'all should be more concerned about offending THEM. Just for the record, most of the gun owners in the country are straight...and they are becoming increasingly POd about the undermining of family values in this country. Politicians might want to think about that... They can't point out that the problem with our schools isn't funding, it's the teacher's unions, because they'll be accused of hating children.
MOST of America knows the teacher's unions are the problem. I believe one of the chief reasons for voter apathy is because this particular problem is being ignored. Really, why should I care who gets elected when I KNOW the education problems will not change, regardless of who IS elected? They can't point out that wind, solar, ethanol, and the other alternative fuels that every politician in America seems to tout are, at least for the moment, technological jokes that can't come close to replacing oil because they'll offend the environmentalists.
Phuqq the enviropsychos. The party that begins to beat these pusbuckets unmercifully with REALITY will gain the support of the 99+% of the populace who are CONSERVATIONISTS. You know us...we are the one's who actually CARE about the environment. But we also deal in the reality of the situation in which we presently find ourselves. They can't point out that Muslims are more likely to engage in terrorism than anyone else because they'll be accused of hating Muslims.
The truth hurts. If moderate muslims won't stand up to the radical elements (here in the US), scroom...they don't deserve to be heard if they won't take these monsters to task for "subverting" their religion.
Anyway, that's MY take on it. No polls to back me up, just a plain old gut reaction to what I read and my take on the situation in which our country's political system seems to be.

Politics wouldn't be a bad thing...an honorable profession in fact........it's just that it requires "politicians"....THAT'S where it really gets effed up!

But that's his point, Tee. A politician doesn't want to offend anybody who might otherwise vote for him, but in today's world just about everybody is offended at something.

Yeah, but my point is "why worry about offending the MICROminority(ies)?"
