Last night, the O'Reilly Factor carried segments of a phone interview with Jeri Thompson. Bill O'Reilly told her that he had been asking Fred to come on to his show for six months, and hasn't gotten an answer -- he renewed the request with Jeri during the call. (Sorry, no link.)

O'Reilly has the largest cable TV news audience and a huge footprint. He also has a decent-sized radio audience.

Seems like Fred would get a lot of exposure from being on O'Reilly. Any idea why he won't appear?

I have a very good idea why: Did you hear O'Reilly and Jeri? I caught this in the middle of the night in rerun, by pure accident, because I won't turn the bastard's show on; would rather watch reruns of Law & Order.

If I was Thompson and any man had talked to my wife, using the tone that O'Reilly used with Jeri, the only reason I would get anywhere near his television set is to punch the guy's lights out.

O'Reilly is a pompas, bloviating ass, with a waaaaay overblown sense of his importance.

O'Reilly probably has some "little nugget" of something he considers a negative stuck away in his back pocket, and he's just waiting for a chance to hammer Thompson, never giving him an opportunity to answer, talking over Thompson with every breath.

O'Reilly is just the very one I would like to see Thompson avoid.

I would rather see him set down with Perky Katie.

I know O'Reilly is a fathead at times, but he has little to dislike about Thompson.

At this point, Thompson needs all the media exposure he can get. Get it now before this equal time crap takes effect.

I heard the interveiw and it was filled with tension.

But I love Bill. He is a sound thinker, and very funny IMO.

My opinion as to why Thompson wont go on the show is this: Bill wont let him sit there and talk for 20 mintues.

Bill does his show in segments that are only a few minutes each. He doesnt give anyone special treatment. He cut Ron Paul off when he wanted to give a little history lesson. Huck only got a few mintues to say his peice... and I my best guess is the same will go for Thompson.

Fred likes to take his time addressing each issue and he knows Bill wants quick direct answers. Thats why he wont go on.

It reminds me of the debate where he asked for a minute to comment on global warming, and he refused to answer the question because the moderator wouldn't give him a minute.

FDT is not gonna fall for the "soundbite mentality" of a show like O'Reilly's. He's been interviewed by Sean Hannity...Sean gave him half the show (H&C), IIRC. THAT is what Fred wants (as should ANY serious contender). Soundbites KILL. Just ask Newt about his "withering on the vine" comment.

Fred is wise to avoid O'Reilly...unless Bill wants to do a full-blown interview in the vein of his interview with President Bush.

Yup. Soundbites just aren't the Fred's modus operandi.
