"God, I've been waiting so long for a woman president," said the oldest of five American women seated at the table in front of me at an outdoor cafe in Paris in October.
"But you've got Hillary, and she's the frontrunner, for heaven's sake," I said.
There was a chorus of boos and ughs. Not one of the American tourists, ranging in age from late 20s to mid- 60s, was a fan of the junior U.S. senator from New York.
"We're waiting for the right woman," the youngest said.
"But you might be waiting a very long time for another woman this qualified and this politically viable."
"We just don't like her," two of my new American friends said in unison. "We'll take our chances."
