Does anyone know if any Presidents had tattoos? It's a burning question and it concieved itself when I started to think what would happen if a Conservative Punk Rocker became President.

I prefer no tattoos on Presidents.

Kids should be spanked when they draw on themselves. Adults will spank themselves later when age and/or skin changes make their tattoos look like hideous bruises.

I would say MAYBE JFK had a Navy tattoo, acquired in a moment of drunken camraderie...LBJ would be 2nd most likely in my guess list. Most other Presidents thru the ages would consider such a thing undignified/trashy...as do I.

Me too. But it's just a random thought. Kind of like what's the longest book ever written?

What is the longest book ever written in the world?

Long long ago in a country far far away...

During the Ming Dynasty at least 3,000 scholars spent 4 years, beginning in 1403, to work on the Yongle Dadian, an encyclopedia with 11,095 volumes and 22,877 chapters.

There are an estimated 370 million Chinese characters used.THE LONGEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN (http://thelongestlistofthelongeststuffatthelongestdomainn ameatlonglast.com/long68.html)

It seems like everyone has a different answer for this one, mainly because some hold the definition of "novel" to one intact book and not a series of books with a continuing story.

The "Guinness Book of World Records" says that Marcel Proust's "La recherche du temps perdu" ("Remembrance of Things Past" or "In Search of Lost Time") holds the world record for the longest novel, at approximately 9,609,000 characters. But the novel is presented in multiple volumes, so sticklers don't always agree with Guinness.

"A Suitable Boy" by Vikram Seth has 1,349 pages and approximately 3,374,000 characters. It's claimed to be the "longest single volume novel ever published" in English. Before Seth's novel, others turned to Samuel Richardson's "Clarissa" as the longest novel with over a million words (and about 5,500,000 characters). This is where all the character, word, and volume counts blur and we begin to get a headache -- because sometimes "Clarissa" is published as one intact book, and sometimes it's in volumes.

For simplicity's sake, we'll go with Proust. What's the longest novel ever published? (http://ask.yahoo.com/20070409.html)

The longest book title from now belongs to Nigel Tomm. His new book title consists of 3,999 characters (with spaces) or 670 words. The full title is:

As for Leo Tolstoy's "War and Peace":

Published from 1865 to 1869. Original text has some 460,000 Russian and French words. English translation contains over 560,000 words and over 3.1 million characters; typically over 1400 pages as a paperback.List of longest novels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_longest_novels)

As really long novels go (500,000-plus words), it's on the low end. Same page:

Sohachi Yamaoka, Tokugawa Ieyasu

This 40-volume historical novel was serialized from 1950-67. The completed novel contains over 10 million Japanese characters. It is not just the longest novel in the Japanese language, but also one of the longest in any language.

Both Teddy Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt were reported to have a tattoo of their family crest somewhere on their bodies, although the specific location is not known.

Does anyone have a link on what marine just said?

I'm just making sure this isn't your typical false rumor. No offense to marine.

President Theodore Roosevelt and Winston Churchill's mother had something in common. They both wore tattoos. While Jennie Churchill's tattoo was allegedly covered for the sake of reputation, and Teddy Roosevelt's was simply in a location which was not readily visible, this caused quite a stir amongst most of their day as well as modern-day history buffs.

President Roosevelt's daughter Alice had a tattoo also in a concealed location. Neither Mrs Churchill nor President Roosevelt's artwork lent itself to gaining a sense of respectability amongst the average citizens. Even whilst such notable figures possessed tattoos, they were still found to be socially unacceptable.Tattoos Designs In History (http://www.bharatbhasha.com/arts-and-crafts.php/69991)
