Missing cat turns up in Florida owner's lost suitcase
Traveler in Fort Worth finds the feline in wrong bag he accidentally picks up

Associated Press

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — The last time Kelly Levy saw her tiger-striped feline was before she took her husband to the airport.

The 24-year-old came back to her house late Friday to find the bottom step, where Gracie Mae would usually be waiting, empty....

...Then she got a phone call.

"Hi, you're not going to believe this, but I am calling from Fort Worth, Texas, and I accidentally picked up your husband's luggage. And when I opened the luggage, a cat jumped out,"...http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/bizarre/5476807.html

Gracie Mae had crawled into Seth Levy's black suitcase undetected, been put through an X-ray machine, loaded onto an airplane, thrown onto a baggage claim conveyor belt and picked up by a stranger.

Carter delivered Gracie Mae to Seth Levy and the tabby made the 1,300-mile trip home on an $80 plane ticket in Sunday night.

Carter said that he considered keeping the cat before he knew she had a home.

"If I couldn't have found a good home, I would have kept it," he said. "We were going to name it Suitcase."http://www.ibnlive.com/news/missing-cat-found-in-owners-suitcase/57202-13.html

The scariest part of that story is they didn't notice the animal at the luggage screener. I had a woman put a dog in a carrier thru when I was working and I freaked and stopped the machine as soon as I saw a rib cage, I at first thought it was a baby till I looked at it closer.

My cat would protest after so long, I can't believe it didn't make any noise.

Probably couldn't hear it. She wasn't in carry-on luggage.

It had to be in the car on the way to the airport, and if it moved weight would be shifting as he carried it. I am skeptical.

A cat in a packed suitcase isn't likely to move, certainly not enough to shift the weight. Now if the suitcase had been empty......

I guess my cat is a spaz he would be flipping out if he had to tear everything inside apart to do it.

Did the cat poop or pee in the suitcase?

My guess would be yes.

My cat's lazy. One time, my dog hit him playfully and he just sat there with a "drunk college guy" expression on his face. He's active, just when he wants to be.

Ours would probably like the peace and quiet.

I didn't know you were an airport screener. I'm surprised you don't tell us more stories about it - I would imagine you'd have a lot of stories.

What did you do about the pooch?

I backed it up and told her to take the dog out and put the carrier back on the belt empty. Then take the dog in the walk thru.

We have 2 gates here, or you can go walk out on the runway from downstairs to walk up the steps of the tiny planes. It's not like I worked at JFK.

My daughter's cat hyperventilates in the car on the way to the vet. But he never goes out of the house. I guess for him going out the front door is like stepping off the edge of the universe. It would be like us blasting off into outer space.
