Former Golf Club Employees Accused of Cooking, Eating Dog
Thursday, January 24, 2008

HONOLULU — Two former golf club employees have been charged with theft and cruelty to animals in the death of a pet dog the owners say was cooked and eaten.

An Oahu grand jury indicted Saturnino Palting, 58, and Nelson Domingo, 43, ...after the Moanalua Golf Club fired them as maintenance workers.

They are charged with stealing a dog owned by Frank Manuma and his wife... The 8-month-old German shepherd-Labrador mix named Caddy had been tied up near a maintenance shed...while Frank Manuma played a round of golf....http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,325229,00.html

He said the club had given him permission to bring the dog to the club.
This is not the same as abandoning the dog by tying him to a shed while you go play golf. Animal cruelty charges could also be levied against the heartless owner.

Cruelty? You think it's cruel to just tie a dog up?

Legally in some jurisdictions it is...IF you walk away from the dog and don't "attend" to it. I lived in such a community AND when I asked why, I was told it's not that uncommon a law.

The 'why' perplexed me because it involved a dog staked to the ground in the owners' own yard (not mine). Go figure.

I tend to agree with leaving a dog tied or chained up all the time. But doing so temporarily to keep the dog out of trouble, or to keep it safe? I don't see that as any form of cruelty.
