Barack Obama routed Hillary Rodham Clinton in the racially charged South Carolina primary Saturday night, regaining campaign momentum in the prelude to a Feb. 5 coast-to-coast competition for more than 1,600 Democratic National Convention delegates.
"The choice in this election is not about regions or religions or genders," Obama said at a boisterous victory rally. "It's not about rich versus poor, young versus old and it's not about black versus white. It's about the past versus the future."
The audience chanted "Race doesn't matter" as it awaited Obama to make his appearance after rolling up 55 percent of the vote in a three-way race.
But it did, in a primary that shattered turnout records.
About half the voters were black, according to polling place interviews, and four out of five of them supported Obama. Black women turned out in particularly large numbers. Obama, the first-term Illinois senator, got about a quarter of the white vote while Clinton and former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina split the rest.

Obama got all the black vote. White women went for Hillary and white men went for Edwards. This is good for a black candidate in a state with a large black population but it does not bode particularly well for Obama in the general election where blacks make up about 10 to 13% of the entire population.

Groovy. A time machine.

If you have to say it...
after rolling up 55 percent of the vote in a three-way race.
A three-way race. The black race, the white race and the guy-with-the-nice-hair race.
Interesting. As democrats have used race the last 40 years as a dividing rod, now its refreshing to see 'race' bite them in the ass.
But it did, in a primary that shattered turnout records.
Indeed, it did. Race. This entire vote was about racism. The new, better kind.
About half the voters were black, according to polling place interviews, and four out of five of them supported Obama.
Sounds like the Ojay verdict. Or Florence & Normandy, Compton, after the Simi Valley verdict. No justice. No peace.
Black women turned out in particularly large numbers.
They were probably turned on.
Obama, the first-term Illinois senator, got about a quarter of the white vote while Clinton and former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina split the rest.
Obama is a rockstar. Skinny little shit. But so was Mic Jagger, so there's that.
In terms of demographics, who knew the American primaries were going to be so racially tacky?
Oh, that's right. I think I did. Democrats were running, weren't they?

I watched most of his victory speech, and I would like to believe he was sincere in all he said. But, he scares me. Hillary, on the other hand, chills me to the bone.

:yeahthat:
What I find even scarier is that this guy is so 'charming' and 'charismatic' in person - kinda like the Huckster & Mittens, AND the fact that so many people put such 'presense' before genuine virtues (such as intergrity, guts, intelligence) when casting their ballots. Many seem to choose based on their prurient twinges in the groin area...
My guy is a rather ugly, squeaky little package, and it's danged tough in this society to get voters to look beneath the surface. They want somebody who looks good in a Western hat and boots and whom they can swoon for in his powerful presences. History, (particularly recently), would happily teach us that such types make for terrible Presidents.

Cowboy hat size is a proxie for schlong size. Who wouldn't want our prez to have the biggest schlong when he goes to meet with the other presidents and prime ministers and sheikhs? It's also useful if he can piss further than them. That way he's got them down 2-0 before the games even begin.
Furthermore, this analysis shows why we don't Hillary as prez. Her schlong just ain't gonna be very much, and she don't even have any boobs to speak of. She can't outschlong OR outboob 'em.

Something that really concerns me about this election is that far more people are voting in the democratic primaries than are voting in the republican primaries.
South Carolina is a strongly republican state but nearly 100,000 people voted in the democratic primary.
In Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada the turnout was much higher in the democratic primary / caucus.
Bush carried all of those states at least once so the turnout should be similar yet more are voting in the democratic contest.
I'm officially very worried.

NOT! I was thinking of more recently, up to and including current campaign candidates.

Thank you for enlightening me on this aspect of things.

I think Dick Morris was betting the farm that this would be the result of the SC election. His idea, as has been stated here, is that B.O. (we need those initials on presidential stationery right?) is a 'black man's" candidate and will not be able to compete well in a General Election. I wonder how many campaign reps strategically placed in the crowd it took to get that chant started for the cameras?
Any forward-looking rabid Democrat is licking their chops at the prospect of an empty-shirt rookie getting to sit on the throne. They know that such a vaccuum of experience and maturity is going to be highly susceptible to brutal influences from Soros, MoveOn.org, and a Dem-led Congress. Howard Dean and company will be utterly empowered (a la Dr. Frankenstein) to build a Prez in their own image.

Blacks all voted for BO (whose wife calls him stinky). White women went for Hillary and white men went for Edwards. As blacks are between 10 and 13% of the total national population BO isn't going to do as well as SC thinks.

White women went for Hillary ...
I wince every time I read/hear something like that. I know I'm going on a limb here, but the ones I fear the most are my dear gender sisters. I have the uncomfortable feeling that, at the eleventh hour, they will rush to "rescue" Little Hillary from The Evil Male (color immaterial) and screw us all in the process.
I SO want to be wrong on this one.

Let's all keep this on perspective, boys and girls... This is the results of the voting among DEMOCRATS in South Carolina... Let the Dems scratch and claw each other to death - It only helps the Pubs image on the national stage...
South Carolina is a RED state and will be again in the general election... What we saw this weekend was a catfight in the Democrat ranks resulting from the Klinton's overindulgence in their greatest pastime - Personal attack and character assissination...
As for the Democrat party in heneral, Wyatt hit it right on target - He who lives by exploting racism dies by exploiting racism... The Democrats have kept the general popuation of Blacks in this country in a self-imposed state of slavery for generations... They have created and encouraged their own set of monsters under the names of Jackson and Sharpton, and now one their own spawn, whom they coddled and celebrated when he won his Senate seat, aspires to the Whitehouse... Oh dear... And at a time the Clintons were trying to secure an under-the-radar 3rd term for Bill... Tsk Tsk... :brow:
