Did McCain say he wouldn’t nominate another Sam Alito? (http://hotair.com/archives/2008/01/28/did-mccain-say-he-wouldnt-nominate-another-sam-alito/)

John Fund reports (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120146652798920519.html?mod=opinion_journal_poli tical_diary) the quote today, in a long piece about how John McCain can patch things up with conservatives. Then there is the issue of judicial nominations, a top priority with conservatives. Nothing would improve Mr. McCain’s standing with conservatives more than a forthright restatement of his previously stated view that “one of our greatest problems in America today is justices that legislate from the bench.” Mr. McCain bruised his standing with conservatives on the issue when in 2005 he became a key player in the so-called gang of 14, which derailed an effort to end Democratic filibusters of Bush judicial nominees. More recently, Mr. McCain has told conservatives he would be happy to appoint the likes of Chief Justice John Roberts to the Supreme Court. But he indicated he might draw the line on a Samuel Alito, because “he wore his conservatism on his sleeve.”

Yesterday I blogged (http://hotair.com/archives/2008/01/28/did-mccain-say-he-wouldnt-nominate-another-sam-alito/) about John Fund’s report that John McCain said he might draw the line at appointing another Sam Alito to the court because “he wears his conservatism on his sleeve.” McCain denied having ever said that. Fund appeared on the Mark Levin Show Monday to stand by his story.

McCain, IMO, is the most dishonest of all the politicians in this race... He clearly is a Partisan Democrat, but he runs under the uniform of a Republican... He should have changed parties years ago, but in his true snakelike form, he knows he can't hold his Senate seat from his home state as a Democrat... So he lies to his constituents, claims to be a Republican, and then does the work of a Democrat...

The man is not to be trusted with ANYTHING...

Every liberal on the bench wears his liberalism on his sleeve, but a conservative can't do that and stay in J Mac's good graces.

McCain, you a lying sacka shiite.

I'd rather oppose a President Obama in office than vote for McCain.

I don't want to do anything anymore. :(

If I close my eyes will they all just go away? I feel like this now, only all of them are outside the window.

Bob Novak confirms McCain’s anti-Alito comment (http://hotair.com/archives/2008/01/31/bob-novak-confirms-mccains-anti-alito-comment/)

On Monday, the day before the Florida primary, John Fund reported (http://hotair.com/archives/2008/01/28/did-mccain-say-he-wouldnt-nominate-another-sam-alito/) that John McCain had told a group of lawyers that while he would appoint a John Roberts to the SCOTUS, he might draw the line at appointing a Sam Alito because he “wore his conservatism on his sleeve.” McCain’s campaign initially responded with a sort of offended non-response, but by the day’s end McCain had offered up an unequivocal denial to NRO’s Byron York.

Well, Bob Novak has confirmed (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/01/30/AR2008013003212.html?hpid=opinionsbox1) that Fund’s report is accurate.

Since I was supposed to believe Giuliani would appoint Conservative judges despite his liberal lean, I guess I'm now supposed to believe McCain will despite this new information.

In the debate last night, McCain said he would nominate a "Roberts" and an "Alito".

He must have figured out that what he said previously was really dumb. But I appreciate knowing how he really feels. His comment last night was obvious pandering.
