LOS ANGELES - Britney Spears was taken from her home by ambulance early Thursday and escorted to a hospital by more than a dozen police officers as two helicopters followed overhead.

A Los Angeles police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the matter, said the 26-year-old pop star was being taken to "get help" but did not give the ambulance's destination. The Los Angeles Times, citing unidentified authorities, said Spears was taken to UCLA Medical Center to be placed on a "mental evaluation hold." Center spokesman Mark Wheeler declined to comment to The Associated Press, citing privacy laws.

Spears' police escort also included motorcycles and two cruisers.
A dozen cops, two helicopters, and an EMT crew take the Bald One to the hospital and a hospital spokesman can't say why because of privacy laws? Give me a break.

In any event, we can guess that she's either having problems with taking drugs—or with not taking them, as the case may be.

She keeps mixing them up -- not taking the Valium but instead taking two teaspoons of Drano.

Seriously, this kid needs to forget the world and worry about herself until she gets her head on straight. That would almost certainly mean we've heard the last of her as a public figure, and that's surely what she needs to establish a life.

I understand that, but geez Louise, this chick has long since given up any pretense of having a "private" life.

Oh, well, I'm sure the paparazzi will find out soon enough what she's in the shop for.

Not that it would be that hard to guess.

This always gets me. Why is it that when officials aren't allowed to say anything, they say it under condition of anonymity??? I understand that they do it because they don't want to get fired, etc, but if you aren't supposed to say anything, then why are you talking?

*sigh*

if you aren't supposed to say anything, then why are you talking? It's that timeless human failing of wanting to appear knowing.

Oh Brother! Not more Britney "I Can't Handle Fame" Spears. Am I the only one who doesn't care?

That's ridiculous.

Seriously, this kid needs to forget the world and worry about herself until she gets her head on straight. Her priorities should be herself and her kids first, second, and thirty-ninth. Everything else should be fortieth or lower.

She keeps going to court to get visitation rights and/or custody, then follows it by going out and doing something stupid to show all the world why she shouldn't be allowed within a mile of the munchkins, supervised or not.

What fox said.Indeed. There are far worse things than NOT being on the cover of Parade, Rolling Stone, Newsweek, Cosmopolitan, Tattoo, . . .

I guess "OK" means "not dead—at least not yet."

LOS ANGELES (AP) - entertainmentminute With Britney Spears whisked out of the public spotlight Thursday and committed to a hospital psychiatric ward, it's now up to a team of professional caregivers to reverse her seemingly endless downward spiral.

Spears, accompanied by more than a dozen police officers, was taken to the UCLA Medical Center before dawn Thursday in what one officer would only say was an effort to "get help" for the troubled pop star.

It was her second 72-hour commitment in four weeks, though her previous stay lasted less than two days and was followed by more strange episodes that have accompanied her divorce and bruising child custody battle.

The law allows a person to be placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold for up to 72 hours if they are believed to be a danger to themselves or others. Spears' mother, Lynne Spears, was seen leaving the medical center's psychiatric hospital about 5:30 a.m. Asked if her daughter was all right, she replied, "Yeah."

One comment (http://comments.breitbart.com/d8uhg8ng0/) in response:

I think she is suffering from trailer withdrawal and should move back to a double wide in Louisiana.

No, you're not.

That's ridiculous.

Yes it is.

I feel terribly sorry for her. It is not easy to end a conservatorship. Mostly they never end. This one will not. Spears will be institutionalized for the rest of her life. She will never see her children again. At this point she probably doesn't care. She will do the lithium shuffle from fingerpaints to puzzles and back again.
