Hey, I'd just like to point out that on Military-Space.org we need more people sponsoring soldiers over seas. We're coming close to the 2000 mark but we need more people.
Ways you can help are: Sending Care packages, Writing letters, Helping families
and MANY many more. We've got a lot of soldiers waiting desprately for people to send them care packages and write to them because they have nothing at home. Http://military-space.org/vbforum and sign up with Referr Taylor, Thanks.

What makes a good care package?
Sweden doesn't have a great diversity of goods on the shelves like the US of A. But they do have some stuff. I'm looking at the non-perishable goods that make up my regular favorites and they don't give me what seem to be great ideas. Peanut butter and Ritz crackers, and I'm thinking - Send salted crackers to people in the desert? Frozen pizza probably wouldn't work either.

Well right now its freezing in Iraq, if your looking to send stuff there, right now ask them if they need blankets? Food isn't that great of a thing to send, its hard to know what and what not they can and can't eat, plus if they have a microwave or some way of heating the food up. For that I'd suggest some Crackers some cookies (it has to be factory packaged at least for the US military) and some stuff like water bottles though I don't know if you can still send those. I've got a couple great links for you here:

This should be some good things to send. Thank's for even considering to make a carepackage its a great thing to do and its fun to get mail and thank you's back.

Okay, I just got some more info in that'll be good for you and you should be able to find.
Deodorant (No smell if possible).
Tooth Brushes
Tooth Paste
and other hygiene stuff is great too.

blankets
Little hard to imagine that the military is not supplying sufficient stuff here.
Deodorant (No smell if possible).
Wish I could find that for myself in Sweden (no smell) - and no smell shampoo as well.
Tooth Brushes
Tooth Paste
and other hygiene stuff is great too.
That's easy, but ....
I gave this a lot of thought yesterday. Started thinking that one should think big -- get a website going, collect donations, encourage large suppliers (manufacturers and/or distributors rather than retailers?) to participate, coordinate with the military for distribution --- then I started looking closer at military-space.org and made a donation.
Personally, I've never been able to pick the right gifts for wives, girlfriends, or anyone else over the years. Things generally turn out better when I just shovel out some bucks and leave the decisions to experts. I know I'm not the only person like that, and wouldn't like to see lots of well meaning packages delivered that result in disappointment. I think military-space.org has defined an important mission for itself, and it's worth supporting. I told some friends who have been doing things like taking care of cats and dogs for deployed service persons, etc.

Thanks lots Roger. Donations are just as important as the care packages and everything like that, it really helps with the site to keep running thanks lots!

No prob. Did you help set up the site, or are you just an enthusiast?

It looks like a good service to me. I felt like thanking them (rather than you thanking me). As described, I'm handicapped when it comes to doing some of these things. It's sooooo good when somebody who's in touch with what's needed takes care of the details. Their concept is great. I'm glad you pointed it out.

Thanks Roger, glad you can help. Because with out the donations and support we've got on the site, there wouldn't be a ton of soldiers with smiles on their faces because of people back home.

Really. It was so easy, I kindof felt guilty about it. Just sat here in the comfort of my own home and clicked a few buttons on the internet, sort of like ordering something from Amazon.com, only better. I suspect some of my friends might have donated too. I haven't asked them, but I suspect.

Don't feel guilty at all really. If we don't have money and donations to run the site, we can't hook people up with soldiers. I think your doing pretty much just as much as everyone else that runs the site and sends carepackages to the soldiers along with letters.
