DENTON -- They call her "Danger Woman" in some parts of the world.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali didn't look particularly dangerous when she took the stage at the University of North Texas on Wednesday evening, and the "Howdy, y'all," was downright disarming.
But she was there to raise awareness, and it didn't take long for the feminist author and former Dutch legislator to remind the sold-out audience of the recent killings of two teenage sisters in Irving. Yaser Said, who is still at large, is believed to have fatally shot daughters Amina, 18, and Sarah, 17, on New Year's Day in his taxicab because they were dating non-Muslim boys, police have said.
As she saw it, the killings are an example of the sort of threats that drove her from Europe.
"The first thing I thought when I heard the news was, an honor killing in Texas? Incredible," Ali said.
