Something about not wanting to be poisoned, I suppose:

Chinese Olympic organisers yesterday criticised US athletes who are bringing their own food to the Games in Beijing this summer instead of trusting local cuisine.

Competitors are banned from importing their own food into the athletes' village under rules drawn up by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that are designed to protect the rights of sponsors such as McDonald's and to police the use of illegal substances.

The United States Olympic Committee, which will have more than 600 people in its delegation, is planning to transport its own produce because of fears about public health and food standards in China.

They'll chow down outside the village.

Well, if they produced food without using human feces for fertilizer, that might be a start.

People that have been to China tell me that American Chinese food is good, Chinese food in China isn't so great.

I hear Mexico isn't even sending a team this time......everybody that can run, jump, or swim has already left the country!

Considering Mexico's success (or lack thereof) in recent Olympics, that wouldn't surprise me. In one recent Games (I believe 2000), Mexico got one medal (a bronze), equal to the success of such sports powerhouses as India and Tonga. (However, the Tongan medal was a silver, in boxing.)

If they think the food is bad, wait 'til they try and breath the air - especially the long distance runners!

Yup. China is "the" worst polluter on the planet right now, and has been for several years.

And will probably get a lot worse before they get better (assuming that's even possible).

What OUR cities/people would look like if OUR coal fired power plants were as dirty as the enviropsychos claim they are:

People that have been to China tell me that American Chinese food is good, Chinese food in China isn't so great.

That's because all of the good Chinese cooks have already immigrated to America!
