Many blacks worry about Obama's safety
<!-- END HEADLINE --> <!-- BEGIN STORY BODY --> By DAVID CRARY, AP National Writer1 hour, 30 minutes ago
For many black Americans, it's a conversation they find hard to avoid, revisiting old fears in the light of bright new hopes.
They watch with wonder as Barack Obama moves ever closer to becoming America's first black president. And they ask themselves, their family, their friends: Is he at risk? Will he be safe?
There is, of course, no sure answer. But interviews with blacks across the country, prominent and otherwise, suggest that lingering worries are outweighed by enthusiasm and determination.
"You can't have lived through the civil rights movement and know something about the history of African-Americans in this country and not be a little concerned," said Edna Medford, a history professor at Washington's Howard University.
"But African-Americans are more concerned that Obama get the opportunity to do the best he can," she added. "And if he wins, most of us believe the country would do for him what it would do for any president, that he will be as well protected as any of them."
Clyde Barrett, 66, a longtime U.S. Labor Department employee now retired in Tampa, Fla., says he often hears expressions of concern for Obama's safety. One young acquaintance, Barrett said, declared he wouldn't even vote for Obama for fear of exposing him to more danger.

I believe it's unfounded paranoia, but if it keeps people from voting for Obama, then it works to our advantage.

 If he continues to show up Empress Wang, he'll be at great risk. If he chooses her to be his running mate, he'll be at even greater risk.

He'll pick her, alright. After all, he's a unifier and a healer. :barf:

Well then hold it in Kathy.
Frankly he puts himself out there. Its up to his security to protect him. he wont get my vote so I wont be contributing to putting him or his beautiful little girls in danger.
He, however is totally responsible for that.

His greatest danger is some lunatic black who would kill him "to raise awareness of racism," which to date has meant, "Look at ME! Look at ME! NOT at HIM! ME! ME! ME!"

I, being the blackest one on this board (;)), am concerned about Obama. He doesn't attend enough Anti-Racism rallies. He once said he hates chocolate cookies. And chocolate is black, and guess who else is black?!
RACIST!

Don't even think about such an event. The shock waves would be catastrophic. Things would burn. People would die and lives would be ruined. And even if the shooter were an African-American Communist transvestite porn dealer/abortion clinic worker, it would still be the fault of the evil racist Right.
The sick thing is that alienated losers seem to gravitate to shooting the more charismatic figures in public life regardless of ideology (JFK, ML King, Bobby Kennedy, George Wallace, Reagan) so it is not paranoid to worry that some nutball is already out there fixating on Obama.
If charisma is key, at least we know Hillary is perfectly safe.

Obama'll be in danger if he gets nominated and picks Hillary as his running mate.

I think he's in trouble if he gets the nomination...period. More if picks her as his running mate than not, but if she doesn't get the nod, I believe Hussein will have an unfortunate accident.

If Obama doesn't pick the Hildebeast, well . . . let's just say there's been more than one person who's crossed the Clintons and wound up regretting it.

Obama'll be in danger if he gets nominated and picks Hillary as his running mate.Tee-hee! Too true!
Meanwhile, I'd be wary of leaving open beverage containers around where she's part of the event. You know, like a cuppa coffee. Something that might invite some substance imported from Canada (drugs are cheaper there, you know).
Not saying SHE would do it, but I can't help thinking of that scene in Richard II when two conspirators pick up on something Bolingbroke exclaims in mock despair:
"Didst thou not mark the king, what words he spake,'
Have I no friend will rid me of this living fear?'
Was it not so? . . .
And speaking it, he wistly look'd on me,
And who should say, 'I would thou wert the man'
That would divorce this terror from my heart;'"
Just idle literary conjecture. Pay no mind.

Hell, things'l burn if he wins......let alone if he were to assume room temperature AFTER he took office. Look at Detroit and other cities that have felt the euphoria of the local populace after "their team" won the NBA Championship or some other banal sports coup! "Gots ta show that WE care...WE won...it's our birthright...it's our culture...you wouldn't know...you've never been black!"

And whom the usual suspects will knee-jerkily blame on Southeners, conservatives, and the 2nd Amendment. Liberals alwas blame loonies' actions on Southeners, conservatives, and the 2nd Amendment. I can just see it coming.
Me, I agree with Moo when he says

Unless our Obama is savvier than we think and he believes in keeping his friends close, and his enemies closer, as the saying goes.
