Eyewitness News NEW CASSEL -- Three young children found dead in the same bed after their mother called police claiming she killed them appeared to have been drowned, although one's throat was cut and all showed signs of possible poisoning, a homicide detective said Monday.

The grieving father of two boys allegedly killed by their disturbed mother said social workers failed to heed his warnings they were in danger.

"Nassau County killed these kids," said Innocent Demesyeux, 28, who claimed county authorities ignored his pleas to protect Michael, 5, and Innocent Jr., 18 months, from their "violent" mother, Leatrice Brewer, 27.

Demesyeux, an ambulette driver who has been estranged from Brewer since 2004 and was locked in a custody battle with her, said he warned authorities she had threatened to kill the children as recently as last week.

Apparently the little girl had a different daddy. Is it any wonder that social conservatives have such a difficult time accepting the legitimacy of blended families, easy divorce, drug use (not that I've seen that alleged here), etc.?

And is it any wonder that many social and political conservatives are less than enamoured of letting the government have even more control of our lives, when the officials who are supposed to protect little children are utterly incapable of or unwilling to do so?
