I am still sick. A few weeks back it was my wisdom teeth, then the flu, and now mystery swelling on the far side of my face by the jaw on the side of the surgery for my teeth.

I need prayer. I dont know why I am suddenly so sick but it is scaring me.

At the risk of this being too "graphic" for you, you don't have anything to panic about.

In case you were not aware, the way your teeth fit into your jaw bone, the roots of the teeth are spread, this keeps them from just falling out every time you stand on your head or are in an otherwise inverted position.

So when a tooth is pulled, you may not be aware, but this process tends to break small pieces of the jaw bone. If you've never had a tooth pulled in the past, you may find that in the socket where the tooth once was, eventually you'll feel a small sliver. You may find more than 1. if you carefully remove it with a pair of tweezers, or have someone you trust to do it for you, you'll find that small slivers of bone from where the tooth was pulled out of the jaw bone, are beginning to work their way to the surface.

This can cause irritation that may lead to some swelling. There's also the possibility of light infection from eating, or if you smoke, etc.

Also, they should have instructed you not to drink from a straw. This can cause what they call "Dry Socket" which can also lead to irritation and swelling.

Point is, swelling after an extraction is not uncommon. If it persists, You may want to make an appointment with your doctor and have it looked at.

But for now, try rinsing your mouth out really good with clean water. Some people suggest adding some salt to the water, which is good too. Occasionally check the socket where the tooth was removed for small bone slivers working their way out, and carefully extract them if you find any. You'll be fine.

Gonzo I hate to bust your bubble but that would not be my case. It is related to the surgery but its not the horror-fest you described.

1. My pain and swelling wasn't on the inside of my mouth. It was further back toward my ear.

2. The Doc thinks he found the cause of the swelling. Because of a blockage after the surgery my saliva gland became infected. So now I need anti-biotics for the infection, pain killers and warm compresses for the inflammation, and thorazine to keep me from going on a rampage because I am so sick of being sick.
