The faculty of the school at 7655 W. 10th Ave. in Lakewood took the action after an increasing lack of participation and engagement by students, said Melissa Reeves, spokesperson for Jefferson County Public Schools.
Reeves said some students were not attending class when the school bell rang. And others would listen to music or play cards in the classroom while class was in session.

"Reeves said some students were not attending class when the school bell rang. And others would listen to music or play cards in the classroom while class was in session." -- from the article --
And this problem is because the Administration and School Board won't allow teachers to control their classes?
Or is it because 'parents' won't allow it?
I think we need 'COUNSELORS' to explain to these teachers why these young people act the way they do. And then more 'COUNSELORS' to sooth the ruffled feathers of the traumatically affected young people.

By "COUNSELORS", I hope you mean the wall-to-wall "COUNSELORS".

Wall-to wall, Floor-to-ceiling or any other form of Counseling.
And, we will need more counselors to 'study' what the counselors should do in the feature.
Yes! We need more money!
And, in the meantime, the punks still; listen to music and play cards during class.
LET ME TEACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only music they would hear, is bells ringing in their empty little heads when they get 'up-sided' with the classroom book. The only cards they would play would be to compare their getwell cards they received after suffering the up-side from the book.

Am I the only one that finds this kind of funny the way they think that doing this will teach them?

Yup, I did 'boot' at Great Lakes Naval Training Center a lotta years ago. I can remember, in July, having to 'shovel snow off the grinder' wearing my un-dress blues, a watch cap, and a pea-coat. I don't remember what I did to deserve this 'lesson', but I can assure you I probably didn't do it again.
But, I'm sure that wouldn't be allowed today, because the parents wouldn't permit it and the ACLU would call it CRUEL.:thumb:

 I can relate to what these teachers are putting up with. I recently gave a couple of EASY assignments, & told the students they had time to work on them in class, so it wouldn't be homework; if they had a failing grade on it, I'd check off the ones they got right, & they could go back & find their mistakes & correct it to a passing grade. They could come in before or after school if they needed help, & despite how easy I made it for them, I counted them as quiz grades so they'd understand how important they were. Fewer than half of my students completed the assignments, then most failed the unit test.
 Of course, somebody who's never taught will say that so many failing students must be the teacher's fault.
 Oh, one more thing. There were 18 versions of one assignment, & 16 of the other, so they didn't all have the same answers, making cheating more difficult. I kept the papers of those who successfully completed the assignments, so their answers couldn't be used by somebody with the same version. Imagine, they probably would have all turned in the assignments if they'd had somebody to copy off of, but would have still failed the test, because I had 7 different versions of those.
 And this is in a relatively good school.

Try boot in Beaufort, S.C. in the summer. The stench of the swamps at low tide still reeks in my nose. And the Palmetto bugs! Cockroaches the size of small children. They scare me to this day. Rats, snakes? No problem. But palmetto bugs? They still give me the willies. Wanna see a Marine scream and run? Throw a palmetto bug at him. :limp:

They didn't turn tables on them, they only proved that they can outslack them.
And given the failure of today's public schools to make classes the least bit intriguing, I wouldn't even blame the kids. This school district has resorted to anarchy, rather than discipline, and they are bound to reap what they have sown.
The kids should be taught how lucky they are to have taxpayers supporting their free ride to an education in the first place. This is their chance to avoid unemployment and bumhood. After graduation, they will be given little sympathy.

"Disinterested" means having no personal stake in something. The article should say "uninterested" students.
