Doing homework is good because it makes you smart. When you are smart you can use knowledge to get what you want. When you can get what you want you are successful. When you are successful other people look up to you.

That is a simple and easy hook for 9 and 10 year olds. Is this a public school? If so 11 and 12 year olds too.

Waterboarding.

I don't know how I would explain that to a Federal Judge and Federal employees.
But it is a somewhat good idea.

Thanks Prez. I'm gonna see what I can do with that.

Just lie to them and promise them candy... Politicians do this all the time. If they are good citizens they will fall for it and no one will hold you accountable when they realize there is no candy to be had.

And then you can do it again next year.

Just tell them that homework is one of those unfair necessary evils that will help you in life.

Dont use anything including the word evil. Fourth graders dont understand how that can be good.

Fine. It's necessarily lame.

I think you will need to come up with something, Taylor. Remember, we grown ups don't understand even though we've been there before.
The only offering I can make is that years back, a HS diploma pretty much got you what you needed in life. Nowadays, further education is so important. Where do colleges and tech schools look? Your HS grades. What comprises much of your HS grades? Homework!

The best argument I can think of is that they need practice or they'll forget what they're learning very quickly.

If you're looking for ways to make them consider learning important... whole books have been written about that I'm sure.

Ask them twenty simple questions. When they realize that they don't know the answers to any of them or most of them rest your case. Then tell them knowing answers to a plethora of questions concerning varying topics will give them power over others. The more you know the more successful you will be.

If memory serves me right, mine never got done until the last minute. My grandson HATES it, and with his cast, he tries really hard, my nerves.

Why do you need to do this?

I'm still trying to convince my 4th grader of this, I have pretty much given up and resorted to the "Because I said so and do you really want to press your luck with Mom" approach.

its not, what they should be taught is how to pass with good grades without doing the homework

As weird as this sounded, my teacher forgot we did the project and just basically went on with life. Anyway, wow, this was like a month ago.

Haha, yup!
Dont feel the need to explain to them why they have to do homework. They should not be questioning your authority anyways. Just tell them that if they DONT do their homework then there will be consequences to pay. (But make sure there actually are some for those chill'en who feel the need to rebel.)

Gato, I was gonna do that but then realized, they are fourth graders and wouldn't get the seriousness of it all, and basically just make fun of the guy for being a hobo.

My stepson would say, "I'd rather live in the streets than go to school"...

Livia

I would kick him out and watch him crawl back the next week begging for food! Muhahaha *Evil Laugh*
Of course being that its a stepson he might pull the ol' "Ima call CPS on you!!" gig.
