This is a disaster for Hillary Clinton.
According to the wiretaps, New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer was delighted to be getting the prostitute "Kristen" again. At least he knew her name. It took Monica Lewinsky's boyfriend six sexual encounters to remember her name (bringing his lifetime average to 8.2).

What's all the fuss? Dude a typical liberal Democrat. I mean, if Ted Kennedy and Chris Dodd can sex sandwich a waitress on the floor of the Senate dining room, and Bill Clinton can get head in the Oval Office, why can't Eliot Spitzer get a little on the side from a working girl? Seems the only thing he did wrong was pay for the service, whereas the other randy liberal Democrats just did slam bam thank you ma'am numbers.

Like Nixon, but unlike Clinton, he did the right thing by resigning.

It would have been interesting had, instead of apologizing all over himself, he just said, yeah, I have sex with prostitutes, so what?

I think so, too.
However, it would have taken more chutzpah than even most corrupt politicians have, since Spitzer's whole career was based on being Mr Morality.

Or something like that.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with prostitution. But given the current attitude toward it, Spitzer did the right thing. Sad. But that's reality.

I see PLENTY wrong with prostitution, but not necessarily on a legal level. Consenting adults and all that stuff.
Like Ann said that Talleyrand said: "It's worse than a crime; it's a blunder."

Other than maybe this:
After one prostitute missed an appointment and left a "crazy" text message for one of her pimps, the procurer remarks that the girl is on drugs. It seems, the procurer adds, "a lot of these girls deteriorate to this point."
Behold the "victimless" crime of prostitution. Hard to believe these girls would turn to drugs. Having sex with strangers for money, nothing to live for ... just thinking about it makes me want to take drugs.

Yes, but for our current attitudes we could be more like Amsterdam with diseased hookers in every storefront window shooting up heroine as a role model for our daughters.

I'm constantly amazed when I hear anyone refer to prostitution as a "victimless" crime.
Think of Spitzer's crime in the context of "The Ripple Effect." Wife and family as victims first, and it radiates out form there. Not just hurt and humiliation. What about exposing his family to disease.
You think because a hooker charges $5K an hour she's any less apt to be disease free?
Victimless Crime?
Give me a break!!!
I wonder if Spitzer was doing drugs during the ten years he was whoreing around? Seems to me, the two go hand in hand.
And we're focusing on the sex angle.
I think where Spitzer is really legally vulnerable is on the money laundering and irregular or illegal banking activities.

It's bad behavior but ought not be a crime.
I see nothing criminal in prostitution.

I'm not all that in favor of legalization. I think there are enough associated ills with prostitution, such as increased risk of the spread of STDs into the general population (including those who don't patronize their services), that its being illegal serves a beneficial purpose.
If it were to be legal, it would have to be regulated up the wazoo, so to speak (e.g., no solicitation near schools and playgrounds would be demanded in most communities).
