Gun Battle at the White House?

By Robert D. Novak

In preparation for oral arguments Tuesday on the extent of gun rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment, the U.S. Supreme Court has before it a brief signed by Vice President Cheney opposing the Bush administration's stance. Even more remarkably, Cheney is faithfully reflecting the views of President Bush.

The government position filed with the Supreme Court by U.S. Solicitor General Paul Clement stunned gun advocates by opposing the breadth of an appellate court's affirmation of individual ownership rights. The Justice Department, not the vice president, is out of order. But if Bush agrees with Cheney, why did the president not simply order Clement to revise his brief? The answers: disorganization and weakness in the eighth year of his presidency.

Consequently, a Republican administration finds itself aligned against the most popular tenet of social conservatism: gun rights, which enjoy much wider agreement than do opposition to abortion or gay marriage. Promises in two presidential campaigns are being abandoned, and Bush finds himself to the left of even Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama. ...http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/03/12/AR2008031203396.html?hpid=opinionsbox1

Nothing suprises me anymore... Each day I wake to hear of insanities more insane than those of the previous day...

The only thing that I stand in wonder at now is how long a nation so fragmented and disjointed can stand under its own weight before it collapses...

This information just inspired me to walk out the door of my office and put 8 more rounds into the Bull's eye.

Damn! I love the smell of gunpowder in the mornin'.

I just received this link on the Heller case (http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=58674) and agree with much therein. They've titled it, "The Roe vs. Wade of 2nd Amendment Rights" and are probably correct. IMO

So that was YOU!! :noggin: Sound travels unimpeded the width and length of that lake GG. The smell of gun powder failed to waft it's way up here, but we've been test firing new barrels and actions today, so I got my prescribed dosage. All is well!!:thumb:

My original, deleted post commented on the fact that I initially defended the Bush administration's brief, but the more I had time to think about it, and the more I read about it, the less I liked it.

What is fascinating to me is that VP Cheney and apparently, President Bush are at odds with their own Solicitor General's brief. On the surface, it sounds like the SG caved to his own prosecutor staff.

Thank God federal judges and solicitor generals have no power to repeal the 2nd Amendment and ""the right of the people to keep and bear arms" is unambigous.

Then again, if Bush hopes to keep the marauding invasion over our southern border unimpeded then he knows he will have to take away our guns very soon.

Two thirds of Congress voting to repeal the 2nd Amendment is political suicide and they are far too addicted to the endless perks, benefits, golden parachute and fresh cute interns each year to give all that up.

I seem to be buying more guns than usual lately, though I cannot imagine why I would do such a thing.

Have you seen this, BuckeyeMike? (http://www.progunleaders.org/johnson.html) Particularly starting at the third paragraph.

If they impede our 2nd Amendment rights, Montanans will not have to do anything in order to secede, it is automatic in our original Statehood Compact. Lord, I love this state!!:claps:
