Senator Obama, finally responded to the awful things his pastor said from the pulpit, and he did so with all the elegance of Bill Clinton. Once again we are being told by a liberal what I do on my own time really is none of your business. I beg to differ; I believe this problem that Obama faces gives us some real insight into the man. He readily admits to having known the man for twenty years, has called him his mentor, up until he was exposed as the racist bigot he is and then he was relegated to a crazy uncle. We have all had times when we disagreed with our pastor, unless you are in a cult then that is not allowed, but these words did not require simple disagreement, they were not a difference in opinion over the color to paint the church, or different interpretations of scripture, they were something more, they were words that sparked outrage in the minds of even some of his most ardent supporters and yet there was no spark in Obama…

Some have speculated perhaps this was his wife’s church; after all it was she who made the comment that for the first time in her life she was proud of our country. If that is the case and if Obama felt the man was out of bounds then one would expect that he being the man of the house would have decided to not go back and if she chose to go it would be alone and his message would not be repeated in his house. But we cannot assume this simply because Obama himself has said this man was a mentor to him, a mentor is someone you look up to, some one you admire and wish to emulate, his pastor was the man he wished to emulate, a man who from the pulpit said God Damn America and blamed September 11th on the American people, a man whose hatred of the supposed rich white folks streamed at full volume, this was his mentor, he calibrated his moral compass but now he is just like some crazy uncle who sometimes says things you wish he wouldn’t. I am sorry this is not Christmas dinner and we did not invite your crazy uncle and we do not want him or anyone who has been mentored by him in the White House.

Now, I could see him sitting through maybe one or two sermons just to see if maybe he was having a bad day, but twenty years and he never made any move to leave that church. Maybe it is just me but I will not sit and listen to garbage being spewed in a church, I will not allow my children to be repeatedly exposed to it either. It was not that long ago that I got up and walked out of my church because I was so angry I could explode and it really wasn’t about what he said it was more about what he didn’t say. We had a visiting priest, he was getting up there in years, had to use a cane to get up on the alter, he got up to the pulpit to do the Gospel he read a few sentences and a baby cried, he stopped reading and did not start again until the mother took her child outside. That just flew all over me, how dare he come into our church and embarrass a faithful church member, it didn’t get any better after that, when he started his homily he suggested that we take all the children to the cry room, when no one moved, he skipped the homily and went straight to preparing the Host so I got up and walked out to my van and spent the rest of the Mass out there.

My husband took the tack of this was our church and we were not going anywhere, he has only come back a couple of times after that because I told our Priest that our church would not tolerate anyone who wanted to separate our church family. Obama on the other hand, did not get up and walk out, he did not from what anyone can tell try and stop this man he called a mentor from forming hatred and division in other young minds, he sat there nodding in agreement and now he wants us to believe that he was just excusing him because he was old and crazy.

We had a chance to listen to a radio preacher the other night that I believe hit the nail on the head and he was not even talking about Obama. He was talking about the two robbers who were dying on the crosses on either side of Jesus, he was talking about how one finally figured out that he was wrong and repented while the other was just telling Jesus if you are such a big dude get us down from here. His point was that the last man didn’t want forgiveness all he wanted was to get away with what he had done. He used this analogy, you are at home Mom has baked fresh cookies and had to run to the store and left you there by yourself and you ate the cookies, Mom comes home and she is furious and asks you did you eat the cookies and you are standing there with crumbs on your face saying what cookies. Mr. Obama, went to this church willingly, he stayed at this church willingly, he either agreed with what this man said or did not have the courage to walk out, he knew who this man was, he was just hoping we wouldn’t find out until he was president, but since we did it is now our fault that we do not understand why such a wonderful young man would sit and listen to such rancor and subject his kids to such hatred and division, it is us that is the problem, not him, not his pastor, she shouldn’t have left the cookies there unguarded, Mr. Obama, you have crumbs on your face.
