Interesting question I came across. If ordered in the military by the US Gov't since they would be the ones giving the orders, would you go DOOR to DOOR removing everyones weapons. Since that would probably be how a gun ban would take effect, would you do it? Or would you say no to it?

No, I would not do it. A Serviceman is not allowed to follow an unlawful order from anyone. He does so at his own peril. You must mean the Second Amendment must have been overwhelmingly ignored, and that the Military is marching in lock step to the President's orders, eh?

What would we do seriously? I mean, would citizens be duking it out with the same people they honor?

I'm not sure that those in the millitary would FOLLOW that order! Besides all of the laws and parts of the constitution that would be broken by even trying to do that.

This was pretty much already done in D.C., where private ownership of handguns is virtually illegal. Look where it got them. A crime rate that makes most metropolitan cities look like Fantasy Island.

Look at yourself. Do you honor the troops? If yes, do you honor them for protecting America and the Constitution, or because they follow without question the orders of the superiors and their Commander-in-Chief?

Well, thats a stupid thing to ask someone who will kill or almost kill those anti-troop people. Of course, for protecting America and the Constitution.

Lighten up, grasshopper. I do not ask stupid things. But for you, first learn to use your brain, and later you can learn to use weapons.

Well, I do apoligize, that was sort of a rude way to put it.

No. I would tell the government to kiss my butt and then go pack sand.

And I'm sure I'd pay a very high price for that. But my conscience would be at peace.

"If" I were still active duty, would I obey such an order? No. "I was just following orders" went out with the Nuremburg trials of the Germans post WW2. Some of those "I was just following orders" Germans were tried and convicted of warcrimes. Some were imprisoned, some were hung. "I was just following orders" doesn't cut it anymore.

Using the US Military to "disarm our own" would be an illegal order, in violation of the second amendment at the very minimum. If such a thing were to come to pass, my standard answer is going to be "I sold off everything I had at a gunshow a long, long time ago."

I would be Constitutionally bound by my Oath (to uphold and defend the Constitution itself!) to absolutely refuse any such order.

Furthermore, I would have to view those who had given such an order to be enemies of the Constitution and I would be obligated to treat them as such.

The National Guard refused to do it in Louisiana after Katrina.

The cops did it though. The Guard guys would get pissed if they did it when the cops were traveling with them. They were supposed to help protect the law enforcement and they were doing that to people. That was a tough spot for them to be in. :(

Awww geese. I'd hate to be in that kind of position.

That was powerful and almost un-real.

The Guard was only with them, the cops went to the doors, you hear that on the video. The Guard was there if someone started shooting at the cops. At that point they could shoot back.

Does that make it any more right, though, Suzie?

The cops should have refused to do it as well.

The Military would not do this. The question is irelevant

"The Military would not do this. The question is irelevant" --UnkHiram

Irrelevance is a topic for courtrooms. The police, National Guard, and Military all have to uphold the Constitution, and the people those dumbasses arrested and whose weapons they confiscated had every right to mow the outlaws down in self defense. Somebody who gets a wild hair up his ass and he thinks he can order his thugs around is just waiting for a very rude and final awakening.

This is truly an interesting question because in most large crime-ridden cities, you can bet that the police already know exactly where the illegal guns are (usually at the known drug and crack houses:rolleyes:), and the "government" chooses to do nothing about that.

So, to answer your question, no.
