There is absolutely no reason to have a weapon in the home for self defense when you have a phone with the numbers 9, 1, 1.

In almost every instance, a call to the police isn't going to save you from an attacker. The police can only be one place at a time. Unless they just happen to be close by, they won't "get there in time" to save you. At best, they can avenge you by catching whoever killed or raped you.

For the minutes it takes for the cavalry (ie. the police) to arrive, your safety is your responsibility. You don't need to win a gunfight. All you need to do it survive That's a lot easier to do.

A real police officer will advise you to get some sort of firearm for protection, and know how to effectively use it. At the most he will tell you to defend yourself by whatever means you have, before they can get there.
