Another Death

My father's hamster passed away today. He's really upset because his dad is dying and the last thing he needed was this.

The hamster was really special to him. It all began last year when a small tame mouse came to our house. It was released from a cage somewhere because it was really to "nice" to be a regular mouse.
When my father tried to release it on a field nearby, it came back to him. So, we took it in, and three days later, it died. That mouse's name was Ralph for obvious reasons.

The day that Ralph died, we went to the pet store and picked out Sunshine Nibbles. My father kept her in his study and played with her a lot while he was writing sermons and watching movies. They really became friends over time.

Sunshine is in a better place now.

So very sorry to hear about this TR, :( . I will be praying for your father. It's amazing how attached we can become to one of God's other creatures. The unconditional love and sheer joy they bring into our lives is indescribable. I've always believed there were two types of people in this world: animal lovers and those that aren't. Those that aren't just simply don't know what a large portion of their life they are missing, what a void exists without the love of a pet.

Well, I didn't become attached. I loved it, but not the way my father did. I knew it was going to pass on in about two years. We're getting a new one today.

We just got a new hamster. She's a little darker than Sunshine Nibbles. Her name is Grizz Sampson (Sampson was a friendly bear from the Wilderness Family films) and she is just getting adapted to her new enviroment.

She looks like a mini-bear because of her color.

Hamsters do not have long life spans. A year is quite long. The longest I ever knew a hamster to live was a year and a half. Even then, Caroline was old, blind and deaf. If you want a pet to last longer than a year, get a longer living pet.

We had a hamster live for 4 years. Stubborn thing :D

The other hamster died the day after the post. She over-stressed herself to death. But we got a guy hamster, Crust, and he's doing really fine now. It's funny, imo.
