I know that some folks get offended at times. I was just curious if anyone finds this offensive. BTW, I don't watch the show. I find it too pretentious.

Not at all. It's simply a spoof of a famous painting. What's so sacrilegious about that?

Actually, I find that picture extremely appropriate and quite relevant to the theme of the series. And it's quite a fitting image to describe the final season.
As for the show itself, I watch it. I think it was extremely well done, the plot, while staying at least basically true to the plot line of the original series, is well written and "believable" if that word can be applied to any Sci-Fi show.
The entire series had a religious under-tone from the start, it's quite fitting a religious based painting was "used" to depict the cast. Also, as I said, if you have watched the series from the beginning, you would understand how appropriate this picture actually is to the series.

Strange, I seem to remember absolute OUTRAGE when the Folsom Street Fair parodied The Last Supper. That's because it was used to promote an event where homosexuals parade down the street naked and suck each other off.

Yes, but some of them look like people too.

Strange, I seem to remember absolute OUTRAGE when the Folsom Street Fair parodied The Last Supper.
In all fairness...
Let's take a look at all 3 paintings in question:
The original:
http://webpages.charter.net/gonzo367/ldv-supper.jpg
The Last Supper - Truly a work of art. The painting depicts Jesus and the 12 apostles. It shows their differing reactions to Jesus' declaration that one of them will betray him.
From left to right (head positions, not body seating) they are:
Bartholomew, James, Andrew, Judas, Peter, John, Jesus, Thomas, James, Philip, Matthew, Jude, and Simon.
Note: 13 figures in the painting, counting Jesus.
Now the Battlestar Galactica Parody:
http://webpages.charter.net/gonzo367/bsg-supper.jpg
First thing to note, this picture, the way it's presented, is done so tastefully. It's meant as an homage to the original which it is based on, and it quite fittingly manages to explain the base "plot line" of the entire series to date. As well, it also quite appropriately represents the final season as well. Both in title "The LAST Supper" and BSG's FINAL season. But equally in the story's message too.
Also it should be noted that though all the actors portrayed in this picture are central to the series, they are not exactly representative of specific figures in Leonardo's painting. Only a few of the actors in the Battlestar Galactica picture can be said to "represent" a figure from DaVinci's painting. Also, it should be noted that the People in the Battlestar Galactica picture that might be "suggestive" of a particular individual in DaVinci's painting, are not all in the appropriate place. For instance, as stated, there are 13 figures in DaVinci's painting, but in the BSG picture, there are only 12.
DaVinci's painting has all 12 apostles arranged in 4 groups of 3, with Jesus comprising a central focus alone.
in the BSG picture, Jesus could be said to be represented by the blond female Cylon. And while Cylons in the original series were absolute villains, in the new series, they are still "the bad guys" but not in the same way. They're representative of a religion, believing in the "One True God", where as the humans in the story pray to "The Gods", plural. In the new series, the Cylons are not acting out of simple malice or hatred toward the human race but are acting more along the lines of "Punisher's" for a race that has transgressed against God. So the Cylon is taking the central position representing the "Divinity" in the show.
Baltar, seated to the Cylon's right, is the betrayer. He's the Judas in this picture. Not in the proper place, based on Davinci's painting. He's betrayed the human race, and later, he's betrayed the female Cylon (the Divinity) that he had loved.
The others represent various things. Those following the leaders of the humans, some finding out they are in fact "sleeper agents", cylons themselves.
All in all, the picture was quite appropriate, and tastefully done.
Now, let's look at the Folsom picture:
http://webpages.charter.net/gonzo367/folsom.jpg
This CLEARLY was not an "homage" to ANYTHING. It was not done as a "tribute" to Davinci's painting. It was done as a MOCKERY toward Christianity. The gay community KNOWS how Christianity views their lifestyle, and still they PERSIST in mocking the religion. And then they have the audacity to bitch like little fems every time someone of the Christian Faith speaks out against them.
Now, before you you respond, I want you to PLEASE consider your response carefully, and don't fly off half cocked and accuse me of something you shouldn't. Because I think you are well aware from MANY of my past posts that I am NOT "anti-Gay" and I am NOT a "gay basher" of ANY kind.
I simply feel that if the gay community wants to be RESPECTED, they should be willing to SHOW respect for others. And making a MOCKERY out of a religious image is NOT a way to show that respect.
That picture was nothing but a slap in the face, delivered by the Folsom equivalent of the Gay Pride assholes that do more to HURT the gay community than they do to help.
Instead of trying to START shit with acts like this, wouldn't it be more productive, and work more in their favor if they started trying to bring a little respectability and positive imagery to the gay community? Maybe if they didn't dress, walk, talk, and act prissy little fagots, people would not CALL them "prissy little fagots". If they perhaps, treated others how THEY want to be treated, not shove their life-style choices down our throats, we'd be more willing to live with and accept them for who they REALLY are.
Gay people claim they want people to treat them just as they do any other American who goes to work, pays his taxes, and lives his life. Speaking for myself, that is exactly how I treat each and every one of them who goes to work, pays their taxes, and lives their life.
But the ones in that picture are NOT those gays. They are the ones who march down the street DEMANDING that I accept them. DEMANDING that I watch them parade in leather thongs and feathered boas.
The gays that squeal like little girls, flap their wrists around, and hiss when they talk, can you tell me WHY they do that?
And don't say "it's a Gay thing" because that's bullshit. I know many gay people. People I worked with, who were gay, but didn't have the "lisp", they didn't speak in a girls voice, if you didn't know they were gay, you wouldn't' be able to tell at all. This is not because they were "hiding" their sexuality. Each and every one of them were openly gay. They were not "in the closet". They were Gay, but they didn't feel the need to walk around with the mannerisms equivalent of an "I AM GAY" billboard mounted to their friggin head.
And if THEY are able to dress, act, talk, and fit in with everyone, why are the queers in the Gay Pride bunch, and the "Folsom fagots" not able to?
I'll tell you why. Because they don't WANT to. They WANT to be singled out. They NEED the attention, and the controversy. They are bitching, little fagot drama queens. THOSE are the people I can not stand. THOSE are the people that Christians protest against.
THOSE are the true enemies of the "gay community".
My advice to the gay community, if you want to be taken seriously, if you want to be free from hatred and bigotry, if you want to be treated fairly and respectfully by others in polite society.... STOP LETTING THOSE FLAMING BITCH QUEENS RUN YOUR PR CAMPAIGNS!

(shurg) I'm done getting all hot and bothered about Hollywood's, SanFransicko homos', and other assorted Christophobes' blasphemous shennanigans. That's EXACTLY what they want to achieve when they put out all that crap. I don't know about you, but like hell I'm going to give them the pleasure of playing into their grimy, hateful paws.
I'll let God sort it all out when the time comes. And trust me, He will.
Also, I don't watch the show.

Wow, Gonzo we actually agree on something. I believe that the Gay Pride parade was the worst thing that could have happened for the gay community. Those bastards who parade around give the whole gay community a bad rep and it affects many peoples views toward homosexuality negatively. I think that whole damn parade needs to be done away with personally. Sound like a good idea to you?

Actually, I consider myself extremely "politically correct". I consider those who skew the word "correct" to mean that politically, they must give special consideration to groups whom they feel are unable to "measure up" based on their own merits, to be the Politically INCORRECT ones. Since being "correct" means being "right", and they are CLEARLY wrong, I see nothing "politically correct" about them.
Hence, my view, in my opinion, is the CORRECT view. Therefore I am, in fact, politically correct.

Considering a picture isn't in and of itself necessarily "religious," it seems it would be difficult for an homage to be sacrilegious. I think the better phrase would be, is it offensive. There are probably some to whom this picture would seem offensive, to others not so much. I'm quite certain way more would be, and are, offended by the homosexual recreation than the Battlestar Gallactica one. It is quite obvious that the BSG one wasn't done as a mockery, and just as obvious, if not more so, that the homosexual one most certainly was.
In deciding to do such things however, my measure is to first consult two pieces of wise counsel. 1 Thessalonians 5:22 says "Abstain from all appearance of evil." -- in other words, we aren't just supposed to flee from evil itself, but also the appearance of evil. I also keep Ezekiel 3:20 in mind (refrain from causing a stumbling block for your brother, lest he die in his sin). Not saying others are bound by them, but for me they are a good rule of thumb. (Of course, being human, I routinely fail miserably, but at least I do try! :) )

DaVinci's painting is artistic license. Jews of Jesus' time didn't sit at tables, They sat or reclined on cushions on the floor, possibly around a low table. However, to depict the Last Supper accurately would have involved painting the backs of some apostles, and trying to separate them enough to show those facing the viewer. It was far easier to paint it as a head table.
IAC, the painting is just religious art. Ergo, using it as a model is not blasphemous. The Folsom freaks are a whole 'nother issue.
