Bible is America's favorite book: poll (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080408/lf_nm_life/reading_survey_dc)

NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) - When it comes to literary pursuits in the United States most people agree on at least one thing -- the most popular book is the Bible, according to a new survey.

"While the Bible is number one among each of the different demographic groups, there is a large difference in the number two favorite book," Harris said in a statement announcing the results.

Men chose J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" and women selected Margaret Mitchell's "Gone With the Wind" as their second-favorite book, according to the online poll.

So Jesus beats out Frodo and Rhett Butler... Well, that's gotta be good news, right...

Pssst... Don't let it out that I posted in a Bible thread... It might cause a controversy...

Gone with the Wind is one of the great works of literature of all time. Frodo & Company aren't in the same league.

That's not to disparage the Ring series. I had all four of the series back in the Seventies, before the world at large discovered Tolkien.

The sad thing is that the bible was probably the only book many people can name. I doubt they are reading it. :(

I saw some survey a while back that when asked to name a book most people will say the bible ... just because they can't think of anything else.

That was like Paris Hilton talking to Larry King about reading the Bible while she was in the slammer. When asked if she had a favorite passage, she couldn't name one.
