Alton's offering sets new standards for conspicuous consumption

While most automakers are jumping on the trend of smaller, more fuel-efficient cars, Alton Manufacturing has taken the opposite route. They've created a whole new vehicle category with their extreme-SUV variant, the "XUV"

The XUV weighs in at an eye-popping 13 tons, and includes such features as hardwood floors, a 42 inch plasma TV, two smaller drop-down TVs, a 42-speaker sound system, custom captain's chairs, and four computer workstations.

Oh, and a train horn too ... in case someone doesn't see you coming.

Based on a modified Ford F-650 platform, the XUV is powered by a 7.2L turbocharged diesel engine built by Caterpillar. The purchase price will set you back nearly 200 grand, a figure that likely pales besides the estimated annual fuel bill.

Autoblog has a short video (http://www.youtube.com/v/ZUNxLQluxLs) of Alton's XUV up on Youtube.

"If you can afford it, the upkeep, and the gasolione then more power to you."

How many gallons to the mile do these things get?

Well, maybe they can put them out in a hybrid version. :D

According to this magizene ad on my wall that I took out of a car magizene, prices start at 82,000 and for a cat 300 HP PKG it is 94,000. 90+ MPH and I think gets around 13 MPG.

I was thinking electrical power myself. My only question would have been is where on that thing would the pile of coal be stored?

Coal? That thing carries its own nuclear power generator.

Of course! How else would it have enough juice to carry all those airplanes and tomahawk missiles?

I saw a yellow Ford 650 in when I was in South Beach, Miami last month. What a ridiculous monstrosity. Yellow; driving the main strip in a yellow montrousity like it was the coolest new toy in a town full of hum-drum Mercedes sports cars and dime-a-dozen Dodge Rams. Yellow.

... and people complain about the price of gas.

Yellow - how gay is that?
