Did you catch the video this week of a student kicking the stuffing out of an art teacher in Baltimore, Maryland while the rest of the class cheered the pounding on?

< snip , snip >

Bumming a line from a movie with the late great Charlton Heston, it looks like the public schools (especially in the inner cities) are being run by “damned dirty apes.” The violent and obnoxious students are becoming emboldened in their bellicose behavior within the ridiculously overcrowded Public Stool System, and I believe we haven’t seen the half of this catastrophic snake. Teachers, you’d better have a serious plan in place—other than pushing a panic button—should you be next.

I’m not a prophet or a betting man, but (as stated) I’m a guessing it’s going to get worse. I’m talkin’ way bad (pardon my English; I went to Publik Skule). Mark my words. And I don’t care how much Obama talks about hope, or how many inspirational songs American Idol contestants cover, the dysfunctional die has been officially cast for increased chaos in the inner city classroom. Thank you, liberals.

When I have children, I'm definitely sending them to a private school if I can afford it. If I can't, I think I'm gonna have them homeschooled.

This is only true if the parents don't work with them at home at all and make sure they are behaving. If they don't go over their work with them and review what they are supposed to be learning and how they are acting. I am sure living in areas of poverty make it worse because some parents can't even take care of themselves. But they have books you are already paying taxes to provide, the parents need to have them bring them home and make sure they are learning. Some kids do not have responsible parents so they will not be helped either way and they will continue to be delinquents in their actions. But to expect the school to do everything to your standards is like expecting the government to do everything to your standards. Most people are happy to have the police for law enforcement, but they have a gun at home. They need to apply the same logic to education.

The problems here in town are nowhere near what Doug cites in his column, but I still refuse to send our daughter to publik skrewl...don't get me wrong, the teachers here are top shelf (my opinion). My problem is with the administrators and WHAT the teachers are "required" to teach...and it ain't the core curriculum, if ya know what I mean.

She goes to a private Christian school, not only in another school district, but in a different city in a different state (about a mile from here). The MOST important thing parents can give their children, besides love and instruction in the Lord's ways, is a top-of-the-line education.
