Delta Air Lines has reached an agreement with Northwest Airlines to take over Northwest and create the world's biggest carrier.

The boards of both companies gave the deal the go-ahead Monday. Delta said the combined airline will be based in Atlanta and will retain its name. Delta CEO Richard Anderson will head the combined company.

I am SSOOO glad that I'm no longer employed with Delta! I just think it's funny that the new CEO of Delta was the old CEO of Northwest. He said that he had no interest in a merger. Sure he didn't!

As I understand through old friends of mine, the Northwest guys are dead opposed to this. I find the whole thing to be a joke. Neither airline ever cared about it's people. Delta proved that when it acquired Pan Am's techs, all 3,000 of them. A short time after, they had a mass layoff. All 3,000 Pan Am techs were spared while 3,000 Delta techs were axed. I have no doubt that Delta will do that again just to make everyone at Northwest feel better.

And while I'm no fan of Unions, we all remember how once Northwest, while negotiating with it's mechanic's union, were training replacement workers. An hour before the deadline of a strike, the regulars were locked out and the replacements began their new careers.

Like I said, I'm glad I'm not there anymore!!

My cousin worked at Delta for 18 years, and he didn't even have the senority to get a decent shift. Until he quit a few months back, he was working 2cd shift with Teus/Wed off

Yes, it is that way at Delta. It would be something like 20 years before I'd have seniority enough for day shift. To make it worse, they would give us a 4 day work week then take it away. Give it back then take it away again. Anything to break good morale.

I do it because I love aviation, DF. Yeah, I have days I ask myself why but I just enjoy it. I did hear that railroads love guys like me because of pneumatics, hydraulics and mechanical systems but I haven't found many opportunities there, at least not around here.

Why not work at a local airport? ATC maybe? If your a veteran you'll probably get hired.

I AM at the local airport, well, the most local one near me. I looked into ATC once but since it's a Fed job, I was told that I'm too old to start now. I don't think I want that job anyway. I've heard alot of horror stories about it.
